Yep- and they are also a lot lighter than your average BB Chebbie- and with an aluminum intake, they weigh pretty close to a stock SB Chebbie

My first engine build was a flattie, i needed a bigger faster anchor, so i got a 352 out of a 1960 police car wreck. Just added a cam some old guy had, that he said "will pep her up" and oh by the way, he said gimme "40 bucks and ya can have these 2 holleys and this here manifold". I was ruined for life. Now i don't currently have a flathead, or any FE, but i am a car guy, and i likes them ALL. Some better than others, but if its loud, if its big, if it burns too F--n much gas, if it makes gobs of torque, or lots of HP or turns up like a chainsaw, i love it. If some jackass is bitching about an FE or a SBC i just don't care.

Just picked up a 63 1/2 Galaxie project with a 352 in it. I'll build it and put it aside for something else.
I've already lined up a 390 block to replace it with,.....and after droppin' a big-assed crank it's gonna be a strokin' sumbitch!

I bought a 1966 F250 pickup new in '66. Came with 352 ci. Original engine. Been rebuilt twice. Last time in 1975 by Tom and his crew at the 'Chevy Shop' in Las Vegas. Still runs great and now has been driven 570,000 miles. I have logged 230,000 since last rebuild.

I currently have 2 FE's. A warmed up 1966 PI 428/C6 in a 1967 S code Mustang Coupe and a 390 2 bbl in a 4spd 1971 F-250 4x4 Flatbed. My First Car was a 1966 Fairlane GT with a 390 4spd. In the 60's, 70's and 80's, the Factory HP stuff was the only game in town. The aftermarket has recently regained a new profit horizon with the FE and we have many more choices than we used too. The '66 390 GT was rated at 335 HP and 427 Ft Lbs of torque. That was with a cast iron 84 lb 4 barrel manifold and seriously restrictive exhaust manifolds thanks to the shock towers. Bolt-ons shed weight and increased performance. My first love was the FE, and from the stuff I can't afford to the stuff I can, I hope there will always be one in my care. They look good in everything.

While this one isn't very HAMB friendly these engines can be monsters, all aluminum and 700hp DSC_0023.jpg

  17. FE's are only misunderstood by those who've pledged loyalty to something else. I've always had good luck with FE's. Here's the last one I built for my ski-boat flatbottom. It's Holman/Moody equipped with their, solid tappet cam, 4v intake, rare HMM ( Holman/Moody Marine) wet exhausts, bellhousing, and timing cover,...…...and what I dig......it's a '63 406 cross-bolt. Heads are BBM with hardened shafts, TRW adjustables, Ross pistons at 10.0:1, fully prepped P.I. rods, Cirello magneto, 12 quart oil pan and blueprinted custom pump,( If you're wondering about the block color...it matches the purple metalflake on the hull's paintjob, that's why.)

  18. Some years back, I restored a circle race flatbottom that had a 427. That engine was always happy...never had a problem. I lost it in a divorce and rumor has it that the 427 was removed, and another FE was put in it's place. That was a sweet boat and engine though...

  19. Gone but not forgotten! My 427 sideoiler went with my ERA cobra. I was always a Chevy guy, but that motor made you fall in love! shelby 015.jpg

  20. I just had to include this, the very Holy Grail of FE development. I took these photos of a customer's engine that I was assembling at the shop...…..a cammer ! Finished engine went into Larry Knapp's '65 factory AFX Fastback Mustang "Stampede", similar to the one pictured here.

My father in law frame- off restored this 58 Edsel convertible in 1984 . It goes without saying he was a big FE engine fan and rebuilt this engine himself way back then. As soon as the car was done in 84 he loaded the family in the car and drove from Vancouver Island Canada to Disneyland and back.

To this day it runs silky smooth has tons of power has had only oil changes and tune ups.

Boat anchor ... I think not!

A friend is throwing this together with an FE. Very uncommon down here to see an FE powered hot rod. 248445713_229739689084152_2902941553164344419_n.jpg

I agree their horrible engines. I must mention that to Ray Paquet, the current SS/A world record holder.
