That second pic looks like some guy just climbing a pole for the heck of it. Dangerous. He has no safety equipment that I can see. I went thru the Pac Bell Pole Climbing School in 1998 when I worked for Comcast. Comcast was phasing out their training for that, too many people hurting themselves. And one or two getting killed by falling off. So they sent us there. Probably a legal beagle liability thing, lol. So we were among the last in our area to gaff poles for Comcast. After that it was discouraged as they phased it out and we used our ladders. Which in some cases (midspan) was scarier than just climbing the darn pole. I was younger, forty pounds lighter and had a better sense of balance back then. ;-)
I agree. People used to be able to afford nice cars. Corvettes were owned by normal people. The members of our Corvette club were great people who were able to have fun with nice cars without a financial strain. It is the decline of the country that our standard of living has been so reduced.
I dunno. I found a lot of guys I knew growing up drove Vettes but they seemed to be a little out of reach for the average guy. The thing that struck me was when I started going to car shows people would love seeing them there but would often be more drawn to the cars that they used to have or the cars their dad's drove or the family car they remember growing up with. I do agree about the standard of living being reduced. It is making the hobby out of reach for many younger and older guys with prices soaring for everything.
