I found a metal shim under the shifter plate on my v8-60 transmission 38 model , new gasket set only has a gasket , so do I need the shim , looks like an oil deflector of some kind , was this a ford thing , or aftermarket thing ? Do I need it ?

Is there a part number anywhere on it?

It’s definitely a factory part. Every 60hp transmission we’ve had in here has had that. It’s a sort of splash shield. The paper gasket goes next to it. It’s a bit of a bugger to slide it into place around the forks.

Thanks , does the gasket go on top or bottom of it ? Or do I need 2 gaskets ?
