What valve seat angle are you running, can you change that from stock?

    Stogy and loudbang like this.
  2. I don't see why not, nothing in the rule book.

    Stogy and loudbang like this.
  3. I use typical performance angles 30 45 60
But I have tried 30 45 70 with some upper lift flow gain but a loss of low lift flow.
But bowl and runner shapes I will not share at this time. Sorry guys

  4. Engine teardown today and inspection.
Everything looked very good except one rod bearing that had a tiny scar in it. It looked OK and was in tollarence but are getting replaced with new ones. I will loosen the fit up to .0023 on the rods. The mains were perfect and will be used again. As well as the rings, the 20211221_152344.jpg 20211221_161815.jpg 20211221_161830.jpg pistons look very good and will be reused.

Have you talked to your crank machinist about counterweight knife-edging?

    Deuces and loudbang like this.
  6. I have but this crank doesn't have enough counter weight as it is and had to add heavy metal to get it in balance so we don't have that option. Balance in this engine is so critical with only 4 main bearings.

Any carbon pattern on the piston tops to give any clues for combustion chamber mods?
You have to excuse me, just throwing out my crazy ideas.

  8. I lightly modified the chambers on this head from the head we ran before 2021 speed week of 116 mph This was a big performance gain over 2020 speed week where we ran 123 in 2021.
I really don't think there is much left in the head to gain other than milling it .030 more and upping the the compression some. Looking at a possable cam
change after discussions with Cam Craft tech depth in North Carolina.
Just not sure at this time.
But need more power for sure

  10. 2020 we ran 116 and change... in 2021 we ran 123 mph 7 mph faster.

  14. I finally received the Rod and Main bearings and shipped them off to Calico Coatings. They promised a 5 day turnaround.
I'm working on a possable cam change once I do some Dyno simulations with some new opening and closing events. More to come so stay tuned

I was going to bring up the knife edging on the counter weighs but French town flyer beat me to it. Do you run a crank scraper or windage tray? Don’t see any hardware to support that.

chryslerfan55, Stogy and loudbang like this.
  18. Not much room in the oil pan on this engine and the crank is up inside the block making it difficult to do. the cam is on the side where a scraper would be. That would not alow oil to wet the cam lobes. So no scraper, the pan is less than 2 inches from the crank in the rear and 3/8 " in the front no room for a windage tray..

MPH get tougher to find as you move up in speed. Another 7 will be real tough. The new chassis work will definitely help.

He is running a dry sump, how much help would knife edge or a scraper be?

  21. This class for a Ford has a big disadvantage as the cu. In. Limit leaves us short by 50 Cubic inches. And a very bad AERO BRICK.
So this is and has been a
    World Class Challange
We at this point are the fastest XO/PP Ford inline six to challenge the record in the class.
And that alone is a notable accomplishment but we want the record more than anything.
If we had more cu. in.'s the challenge would be easier
To make the H.P. needed to succeed.
Still some small things that will help us get there and we will keep digging deaper.....never give up!

I say you and your time is doing a great job.
Old architect is not the easy way by any means. Keep digging.

  25. 20220114_175304.jpg 20220114_175225.jpg I received the engine bearings back from Calico Coatings today now I can button up the short block

  26. pretty swanky, may I ask what that costs? You can PM in private if needed.

I hate askingdumb questions but....I guess you have off-set ground the crank and bored it to the max?!
    Still 50 short..

  30. I still have another over bore left and because these 262 engines are so rare and hard to find. I don't want to go to full on kill just yet. Could prolly get 6 more cu. In . If I maxed everything out. It will be the last resort.
