It's been a long dry spell. Definitely looking forward to it! I'll be there early on Sat the 29th. Anyone else making the trek?
Looks like I’ll be going, might even be selling. A buddy has a space out by the back gate and goes every time. I may just throw some of my junk in his truck and go with him this year. IIRC, the GNRS is usually on the same weekend so it’s always a coin flip.
I may make it on Saturday if I don’t get called in. Although I don’t need anything I still want to walk around it since it’s been 4 or 5 years since the last time.
I am unable to go to Turlock anymore since I am on kidney dialysis. IMO, Turlock is the best swap meet there is. I used to fly out from Connecticut for a long weekend in January without the cold weather. The last time that I went, I brought 2 friends along. We first went to Gene Scott's old place in Rosemead on Thursday, Bakersfield on Friday, then Turner's Auto Parts in Fresno, then onto Turlock, and all day Saturday at Turlock. We drove back down south Saturday night. We went to the Roadster show on Sunday, Bob's Big Boy for supper, then a cruise on Mulholland Drive, and onto LAX for the red-eye flight home. My friends were sorry that they hadn't gone with me earlier as they wanted to go again. auto parts
Lots of knik naks ect this year. Even saw a vendor selling household items (lamps, chairs, tables ect.)
Hmm I missed all that, seemed like the usual sea of car stuff to me. Definitely a far cry form the Pomona 'flea market'. A friend noted some empty spaces, possibly due to Covid, but it was mostly full, still more than anyplace I ever go. Sorry was unable to take photos.
Oh there was plenty of car stuff, just more crap than usual this year. (Been going for many years as Turlock is just a few miles south of me) It was noticeably cleared out this AM. Playoffs I guess. Sorry, no pics.
I read the car corral rules and it said must drive car in. I have took non running project cars on trailers before and I had to pay extra but the rules now says all Cars in the corral must drive in.
Apparently I bought some early doors there yesterday and I have never been there! Got a phone call, "Hey this guy has these doors and I thought of you..." Dave
There was lots of good stuff. This ‘40 Ford gave me a massive stiffy. If only my car hole wasn’t jam packed already… It was a nice car, couldn’t ask for nicer sheet metal!
This thing was cool!! In the end I sold a bunch of stuff, lightened the load but bought a crusty but sweet ass prewar Schwinn (I was the guy scooting around knocking over blue hairs) a Sharp 4 barrel for an 8BA and a Model A truck bed for $200. Already looking forward to next year!
El Scotto...ill look for you next year! Looks like you had a blast. I did too..got there Friday and left Saturday about noon. Nowadays besides finding rare hot rod parts..the best part has become for me, hanging out with like-minded people. A buddy and me rented a sprinter style van and loaded that thing up to the roof in spots with cool stuff. My buddy scored more stuff than me..but that's OK...many cigars were smoked. All was awesome. Ate at a nearby place Friday night called The Dustbowl Brewery..literally down the street from the swap..it was loud..but they had great food. It's my favorite swap of the year hands down.
