    Were you driving it ? I think at one time or another all of us older kids put our hands out the window of a car and felt the effects of the wind as we flattened and then angled our hands. While there is no way to know if the air flowing under the front fenders could become an issue at 150 mph, I find it hard to believe that there was "not one bit of lift". The thing about something like this is that it could be a non-issue to a certain point..........then suddenly become an issue. The picture is a little confusing. I knew there was a roadrace course there and by the way he is crossing the centerline it appears he may be road racing, yet the tires on the car are more for drag racing than road racing.

    20201001_170319.jpg This thing, old mangy, 327-250 hp truck engine, rebuilt with a set of 462 heads, and a roller cam, looking for 300+ hp. Not radical, practical.

    On the radical side, 1963-ish Jeep Tornado sohc inline 6. It had a crossflow head, hemi chambers and 12 ports. Down side, the cam was really odd. It only had 6 lobes, each operating both the intake and exhaust valves on each cylinder. 3 Weber side drafts, 3 into 1 headers, and find somewhere to get a hot cam ground for it. Should sound like a Jaguar 6...

    Hello,

    Ever since my brother and I had success building the first 283 SBC, running it, and making it reliable for plenty of full-on runs at the drags in the 1940 Willys Coupe, we were happy. But, at the time, our next build to the blower spec 292 SBC block had enough stuff to get really close to the national record. We were extremely happy with that 671 SBC build and the sound it made was impressive, even exiting through the mufflers.

    So, when we heard the whine of the McCullough/Paxton Centrifugal Supercharger on a T-Bird, it was impressive as a street car and power. We knew the owner and he drove it everywhere. So, we also saw a centrifugal supercharger on an SBC motor at the drags and decided that the SBC version was going to be our motor for any other daily street driven hot rod.

    So, with that in mind, when I heard the 1959 sound of a Centrifugal Supercharger on an SBC motor, we knew the owner and actual car. It was built out of the nearby hot rod/drag racing/custom shop just a couple of blocks from our Westside of Long Beach house. Speed Engineering was home to Ronnie LeGrand and Tom McEwen's venture into the world of hot rods and drag racing.

    My brother was impressed with watching the film that I took of the Studebaker sedan in his last years. But, it was a silent movie. He would have been impressed with “what would have been,” if we had followed through with our next SBC build with a centrifugal supercharger. Back then, he and I listened to the LP album in December 1959 at home and one track had the Junior Thompson/Speed Engineering actual sound.

    Now, that it is edited together, he would have been doubly impressed for our next SBC build.

  8. Dream mill? I have never owned a 426 max wedge.

    If I had money to burn I would like to own another Boss 302. I could build a clone easy enough and would be happy with it. But Ford parts are so expensive, the engine is easy enough but then I would have to come up a transmission; the top loader is made from expensium.

    I have owned both a Boss and a Z28 and liked them both, but the Boss is kind of special to me.
     
  9. Since my 57 has no engine I'd like to put some of my collected parts into play, I think I'd like to build a 383 ci, 10-1, hydraulic roller with AFR heads and top it with my M/T crossram.

    I've always been a motorhead and currently have an all aftermarket full roller blown 540, a stroked 454 with tunnel ram also full roller, old school 355 with roller double humps, double quads, solid flat tappet.

    But then I always have the sbc blower setup to do something with, that'd look good on something too

  10. LOL the rambler 327. We pulled one of of an Ambassador (I think could have the model wrong) and replaced it with a 327 Chebby. The rambler mill ended up getting rebuilt and going into an old ford. ;)

    did this around 2005-7. It is in my 1951 ford coupe. Except for poor gas mileage it could be a daily driver. It can do 500 mile trips with ease. 1958 392 hemi with Al heads, Isky cam, forged pistons, MSD ignition.
     
  13. Yes, I was driving it. All I can tell you is in 3 years of running SCTA 1/2 mile meets at Riverside, I made one hell of a lot of laps on the long track and never experienced any lift. I credit the fact that Frank Kurtis set the chassis up very stiff with 50/50 Monroes on all corners.

    Ouch ... a glove to the face for us early hemi guys. Honestly that engine looks fantastic and maybe not that far off in money spent from an iron 426. I'm one of those who feel that the " Early " is a better street engine ( by far ) by design in general.

    This motor has a lot of free stuff on it and guess the total price was around 3 grand....except for the heads that are not counted... They were costly....
