Nice progress on your truck it is beautiful. When I rebuilt my axle I got a kingpin kit from here - https://www.classicparts.com/1955-59-King-Pin-Set-1_2-Ton/productinfo/74-104/# It came with washers you stack, small shims and larger shims - (1/8" or 1/4" will have to go find them).
Lmao i changed mine last summer an noticed tranny mount was bad so changed that then noticed exhaust now hit tranny cross member so took headers off cut welded ect then the chinese starter died again so got mad because sick of taking that side header off to change it put stock y-pipe back on an noticed oil pan was seeping alittle had tiny crack so picked up the motor welded pan up an changed the rear seal an pulled some caps for good measure drove for 2 weeks an seems stroker motors don't like single exhausts cause i smelt gas over those two weeks looked underneath an a line was leaking right onto that single exhaust pipe that had turned blue so took y-pipe off cut an welded another pipe to it for dual exhaust right after i had taken box off to fix pesky gas leak so backed it out of driveway an was a huge cloud of white smoke so first thought was old iron heads don't like that much heat um much so went to shed spent a week did up another set took old ones off num 1 exhaust valve had cracked so good thing was in driveway anyway i am looking forward to walk in the park cab removal just can't beat a daily driver to keep you busy!
It's passed through a couple owners since I had it, but it's still local and still looks good. I've currently got a 57 short, big window I throw a little time at when I don't feel like working on the other projects.
Great job on the 58 my son has a 59 the same color. I have a 57 with gas tank behind seat with no issues wouldn’t change it for the world.
Stealing from my own back yard?!?! What a low-down move! But, I'll forgive you because you have a GREAT avatar! How's progress on it?
I finally found those larger spacers I was talking about. 7.95mm thick. The rest were considerably smaller +/- .50mm I would say there were about 6 of them.
The foundation is in place https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/building-a-57-chevy-shop-truck.1084369/ .
REALLY like your truck! especially the color combo. Since I don't have a "classic" truck I have a couple questions....... Wonder why....guys don't install a WIDER radiator that isn't so tall that it sticks up above the radiator support? Wonder why....guys don't mount their battery under the seat or 'somewhere' other than standing up on the firewall? MOST all older trucks I've seen have this issue (my opinion) so maybe its a problem that can't be fixed. It just seems.....with these two changes ...it would really clean up under a near perfect hood. 6sally6
Like swade41 said it is not a problem for me. The truck comes from a time when trucks were still trucks and meant to be worked with. I do like the small imperfections of the trucks, this is just how they were back then. sometimes I like a shaved truck for someone else but not for myself it's just not my taste
