I've heard about the 36 before. Never heard about the T-Bird and Lincoln. Thanks for posting!

  2. @Denise- LOL! It's a good thing you didn't ask him if he had any oil paintings or cave drawings of the cars being built!

And just think how many suicides could have been prevented with that hemp fuel Alfred. After a couple hours sittin in the garage, with the motor runnin', the guy emerges with a whole new outlook on life.:D

I would feel like a total ass if I was responsible for the creases and dents in these works of art .

Sounds like you've had experience in creases and dents?

There was one of these at 2009 Fall Hershey Car show. The owner was from Scottsdale Arizona. Quite a piece of History !!

  13. I wonder if Ford made any other model or different year car's in stainless besides the 3 mentioned here?

I saw one of the 36's at Hershey last year also. Its the only one of them in a private collection from what I understand. So evidentally there are at least 2 still in running condition. I also saw the Lincoln convert at the AACA meuseum while I was there. The Bird wasn't there yet.

Judging from how regular suicide Lincolns were built, with the properties of stainless added, that has to be the most structurally sound convertible ever made.

oh,... never mind, I just read that the structures of the cars were regular steel. Too much hemp fiber in my diet i guess. ;)

Crawford Museum in Cleveland has four stainless cars. Three Ford products and a DeLorean

Pretty sure this was the 36 that was at the flathead v8 museum in auburn a couple of years ago when we visited, it was rotating on a circular base in its own room,I’ll try and dig out an old photo of it,if was gleaming

I saw the Thunderbird on display at the A.A.C.A. Museum several years ago. I wasn't impressed with the body lines and door fit. We were told that because of the stainless steel, it was harder to get nice clean body lines from the die's.

AL used to let the salesperson of the week or month have one for a weekend and they got banded up from that. I worked in the mobile equipment shop at AL and tuned up and test drove the 36. It looked nothing like the all polished up one in Hemmings. They used to scotch bright the body to clean it up. Finally, I think they clear coated it so they didn't need to continually shine it up.

Hemmings this month stated that old Henry had 3 Model As and wheels built out of stainless steel. All were either destroyed or went missing never to be seen again.
