What did NHRA men do before they worked for NHRA...some were racers. Here is a photo of former NHRA Division 7 Directer (1963 - 1979) and full time announcer Bernie Partridge. He is shown here running his 1962 409 Chevrolet in SS/S at the 1962 NHRA Winternationals.

GM had a racing ban starting in 1963 but were still developing, sneaking out racing/performance parts out the back door to folks like Bill Jenkins, Dave Strickler, Dick Harrell....

So any one know when the sbc mouse motor and bbc rat motor nick name started ? o_O
This 62 with a 409 with The Desert Rat on rear quarter makes me think it maybe earlier than the 65 big block
Was the W engine also called a Rat ?

Lew Arrington with Brutus and Jungle Jim with the Jungle Jim nova both showed up at Cecil County for about three weeks straight. They would make a couple passes with each car with Jungle Jim driving.

Thank you Loudbang I wasn't sure of the classification. I'll put the ad in the "stock" thread. Should it be removed from here?
