I don’t see anything about the pvc board. What thickness did you use?
    Thanks

The back glass is all that's left and I'm missing one of the trim clips for the molding. Haven't decided if I am going to install it anyways.

Are you able to put the windshield trim on after the glass and gasket is installed in the car? I didn't think that was possible.

The moldings can only go on after everything else is installed. You DO have to install the clips on the pinch weld before you install the gasket and glass. Also, Steele recommends a glazing compound that is extremely messy. Hopefully it I sealed up tight! I'm missing one of those pinch weld clips. You don't happen to have one, do you?

Also, my buddy talked me into gluing the quarter glass in with urethane. This eliminates leaks and rattles. And since I have AC, I'm never going to roll them down anyway.

I guess I am not remembering how I put my windshields in correctly. I thought I had to put the trim in the gasket first. I can look for the clips, I remember robbing my parts car for those clips, and I may have some left over. As I remember some of them were very rusty and not useable. Due to the holidays I may not be going to my farm where my shop is until the week end after New Years. I can look then. Merry Christmas.

Thanks for looking. I found a guy near to me that has a 49 convertible and is collecting parts for a Sedanette. He is out of the country until after New Year's. It's possible he may have one, so I'm covering my bases.

  10. Rockable, might try these guys for those clips as they have bailed me out at times. Worth a shot.

    Rock,
I agree with BJR. The trim piece on the WS goes on before you put the WS in. I'm not sure about the rear window. I found the trim clips in an old wrecking yard. Couldn't find anyone currently making them. They were used on other years in the early 50's so you might look at other early Buicks.

I do business with Jeff on every car. They have a lot of stuff but they won't have this. I will try French Lake if my early source doesn't have them. Thanks.

In reading the body shop manual, it says to remove the trim piece first, then the lockstrip, glass, etc. Installation is the reverse. The trim covers the locking strip, I believe. You couldn't put the locking strip in with the trim in place.

I guess I will find out. I'd rather take 2 beatings than remove that windshield, for sure. You do, for sure, have to put the clips on the pinch weld first and put sealant around them. Wish me luck!

    Merry Christmas!

1224211419_HDR.jpg 1224211139_HDR.jpg Well, that was fun. Can't wait to do the next side. Rubber mallet works better than the heel of my hand.....which is bruised.

All the glass is in. If you ever do one of these, put the rear glass in before putting the deck lid on. Had a suction cup let go while trying to put the glass in place by myself and got 3 scuffs in the paint. Hopefully, it will buff out. Really pissed at myself but I will get over it.

I bought a set of Sombreros off ebay a couple of years ago and decided it was time to see if this was going to work. This is a slickly designed package that includes a pedestal, a custom machined bolt through retainer with a strong magnet on top of it and the medallions are modified with a steel base. So, the center just snaps in place. I dont know who made these but they did a great job.

I'm going to try to adapt 56 Buick centers to it. We'll see if that works out.

Or put a set of 49 Cad rear fenders on and call it good. They bolt right on .

That ain't happening. Car is painted and, besides, I like the Buick fenders better. You put the Caddy fenders on yours. :p

If you used the Caddy fenders you wouldn't have to change the wheel cover logos.:D:p

Just stuck up there with some tape. I will have to make some bezels. Still, it will be easier and cheaper than putting Caddy rear quarters on it. ;) 1231211501.jpg

Bezel prototype no. 2. I'm not going to tell you what I said when the dremel tool slipped and put that scar in the face of it. I was less than 2 minutes from being done with it.

I cut out the stock, hammerformed the bezel, then cut the center out with a nibbler. Finished it up with dremel and tools.

Admittedly, I haven't read all 13 pages of this post, but I did see where you mentioned that you have AC installed...am curious as to what heat&air unit you used? Am getting ready to do the same to my '49 Cad, and figure that your room under the dash is about as crowded as it is on my car. So what's the "easy fix"?

I have a VintageAir Super in mine. You need to go back and look at my firewall work and compare it to yours, however. I had plenty of room once I reduced the firewall recess for the straight 8. I could probably have squeezed it in anyway. Since the Caddy had a V8, your firewall should be different.

In my 49 Buick I used a Gen II ComPac - Heat Cool and Defrost. Fit and works great.

Making progress. I got the front end mostly assembled today. With a little luck, I may get the entire front end done this week.....assuming I can round up qualified help.
