Isn't it amazing that a 5"chop on a T is a conservative chop? Also, the original header above the windshield has a slight curve at the top, like it does above the rear window. Are you going to compensate for that?
No i dont going to put in a visor. The pices that goes over the doors stick out 1 inch in front of the front window posts. I keep those to give the front a bit of shape. Thanks Thanks The bulletholes is from when the last owner before me tryed to deliver his last load of moonshine he ever did. But they helped me to determine where to do the cut. From the sill to the plane where the roof is attached it is 39 1/4. My measureing stick bow a little and show a tad moore on the pic. Thanks Yes it is. On allmost any other car a 5 inch chop would be a radical chop. No the header will remain straight.
Since it was good wheather today i rolled out the car to stand back and look at it. Tok some pics to compare whith those before the chop.
Thanks. First i was a bit disapointed that i didnt could take more then 5 inch. But when it was done it turned out alot better then i thought it would. My only regret is my rear window. I should not messed with it. It turned out great in many ways but do look stock.
That rear window is a pane - pun intended. I had planned on taking less out on mine too, but in the end decided that it looked better small. However; when I back up, not so much. Back up camera time.
If you want to return some height to the rear window opening, now is the time to do it! But it's looking great!
I like it! That Hemi is going to be stout! Thanks for the measurement, it helps me with mine. I like the rear lower suspension arms too. It is a good look. Do you have to have fenders on, or no?
I problaby keep my rear window as it is. To lazy to redo. The lower arms are stock Land Rover trailingarms. I like the look of them to. Since may last year we are allowed to get them legal without fenders.
Sorry guys that i must disapoint you. And my wote gonna win. But i had seen it without a visor all the time in my head.
As usual this time at year the progress is slow. I have done some jobs on my coupe but the progress have ben really slow. And the job that i completed i didnt take a photo of when it was done. But i have mounted the taillights. Its a Chevy 58 lower series ones and one of the best looking taillights of the 50:s. But on a small hotrod they tend to stick out a bit to much in my opinion. They allso need a flat surface to mount to. So i made some pots to sink them in a bit in the tailpanel. After the last pic i cut of the edges that stick out and welded them in. I allso replaced the white lenses with red ones.
Nice job on those and i agree that they are good looking taillights. Too many belly button 50 Pontiac or 38-9 tear drops. JW
It looks good with those tailights sunken in but I think retaining the backup lights would be better. I hate it when people behind me don't know that I'm backing up.
Here is the picture i forgot to take on my last update. When i was at the tech inspection 2 years ago he didnt like that my firewall flexed when he pushed the brake. Problaby not a problem anymore since i made the transmission tunnel since then. But better safe than sorry so i reinforced the firewall. To pass the inspection i need a defroster for the windshield. I found a neat little unit for racingapplication i could use. First i started to measureing where to get the hot water through the firewall. I found a good spot where it works on the inside and i could route the heatlines relative discret over the engine. Then i needed to mount the heater and direct the heat to the windshield. I tested with some cardboard if i could use the space behind the dash. It seemed to work so i started to fabricate a bracket for the heater. I allso made a pipe facing down if i ever need some heat to the floor. Then i made the channel to direct the heat behind the dash. Did not do the openings yet becouse i want the windshieldframe in place first. The dash still fit so i guess it is a success.
Its a long time since the last update on my build. The sad truth is that i have done allmost nothing since then. But sometimes things dont go as planned but this is not the right forum for that. Where i left the build it was time to start modify the windshield frame to make it fit. So i chopped the windshield frame and straighten the hinge and mounted it. It all seemed to work well but something looked odd with the hinge against the header. When i take a closer look on the stock header i see it have a groove the hinge fit in. Thats offcourse is missing on my homemade one. The stock one is to rusty and bent to cut out and use. I think i know how to solve it but i will think it over a bit more before i do anything. The 1927 factory ac still works like a champ.
