I have always liked that car although I prefer it when it was black and had the numbers silver leafed on the doors. Didn’t have a Pontiac engine with Webers or something like that? I believe John Callies worked for one of the major automakers as an engineer. (I have a good memory although it is short!)

Yes, 303” Pontiac, something like a Trans Am series engine. Man, What a Machine!

Thanks Doug, for finding that drawing. I see he ran some Nitrous, no wander the people that ran the Autocross and hill climb events, didn't make him very welcome, Too Fast ! I am certain he is the same John Callies of crankshaft fame.

    Yes he is Marty.
I have a Callies crank in the engine in my roadster, though he was no longer in the picture when I bought it, the name sold me.

  7. Here is one I rebuilt about a year a d a half ago. Unfortunately, I sold it before I ever got to make a pass in it. I'd love to know where it is now.

Mistaken many times as an Altered Coupe.

    Hello,

In the early drag racing days, the designation for Altered Coupes and Competition Coupes was similar, but different. There are a lot of people that make the mistake in identification of old photos, as they are/were similar.

But, a little research is necessary prior to designating an Altered Fiat Coupe as a Competition Coupe, or vice versa in these hectic copy and paste internet trips into the world of old drag racing photos.

When the whole group showed up at Lion’s Dragstrip, it was impressive with the matching uniforms and efficiency at which they did the work. Of course, everyone won gathered around them in the pits due to the fact that they were considered the top race team in So Cal during this time period.
