Can anyone tell me can I swap axle tubes on a 42 Ford banjo rear end? My thinking is I don't have to weld spring mounts so I can mount it in my model A Hot Rod and it would move the axle back 7-8 inches.

  2. Im not that up on the banjo rear, but I would thing that as long as you use the correct length axles with the different year tubes it would work. After 32 the rear got wider in the late thirty"s and forty"s.

Yes you can. You know that setting up clearances is done with the side gaskets, right?

No I did not. Guess I have more research to do.

  6. The gaskets come in colors pending thickness. To do this you need to do a total set up ring to pinion. The difference is bearing and race can very several thousands form one unit to another.

If you’re putting it under a Model A then you need the perches on top. Model A tubes don’t interchange with the layer housings. You will either need to weld mounts on, or cut a pair off a Model A housing with the flanges, trim and bolt those on, there is a thread out there that shows how to do that.

If I'm reading the OP's post correctly, I think his goal is to have the axle moved back 7-8 inches from stock so swapping the bells on his '42 banjo will allow him to run a spring in front setup. Like the photo @Marty Strode shows in post #7

Yup, did that too, but with a QC in the middle, just sent the axle the other way.
