I guess I'll be the outlier and say I like the '64 best. Growing up in the 90's and watching MTV is probably what makes me relate 64 Impalas as the coolest. I've got this SS 4 speed project that I really need to finish putting together soon.

These were taken by a friend, most likely late '70s.

Elcohaulic, have you ever considered the LT1 Camaro air cleaners from the early 70's? I have used them on
several small block with good success. And a lot more affordable than the 409" ones any more. Bob

    Hello,

In high school, all of us had owned our cars for several years. We worked on them, made them faster and looked better with varied modifications. But, the attraction of new cars all started with our friend buying his first car, a red 61 Chevy Biscayne with a 409 motor. The newest 1961 409 ruled the roost without anyone challenging the top spot. We all envied the newest car, if not for the power, but, it was a new car.

Nearing the end of our high school reign, a 1963 two door Bel Air sedan and an Impala showed up. By the time 64 had rolled around, we were all out and about with our post high school endeavors. Since my 58 Impala was now 5 years old, it was time for an update with a bigger 409 or now in 63 a z-11 motor. But, it was not a stock car built for daily driving, which the 58 Impala was in droves. A new car with more horsepower would have been nice.

Most of our group of teenagers had futures planned out. Military service was strong since the draft was upon us graduating seniors. We felt like a lot of teenagers, in that there were many ways to move on in the next step of our lives. Those powerful cars were no longer the draw that they once used to have. Our usage of the fastest cars from 57 to 62 were all we were able to handle with our limited incomes.(except for the 61 Biscayne owner)

A new 409 powered any style 62-63-64 Impala model would have just been perfect. But, as the handwriting was already on the wall, it was just a dream and practical cruising cars were now the emphasis. Our older lives were taking a different route, for all of my friends and me. Selling the 58 Impala and the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery paid for college and a new 65 Red El Camino.

63 for me - I like the pointed fender ends and the twin peaked hood/recess on the trunk lid.

My old man had a '62 Sport Sedan that I put some miles on, but I've always liked the '63s best. Maybe because that's the year I was born, maybe because there was an SS that I saw almost daily as a teenager and though it was cool. I ended up buying it several years later from the 2nd owner. Drove it for a long time. Here's the last one I had, '63 BelAir wagon. Sold to a HAMBer a while back.

But then again, who wouldn't want "the Love Machine"?

  22. As mentioned by some others, I like them in numerical order. I have had all three, but 62 is my favorite. Just picked up a 62 SS a couple weeks ago, but it was pretty rusty, so I decided I didn't need another project that big right now. I am more of a sedan guy anyway, so maybe I can trip across a solid 62 2-door sedan at some point similar to what @Stock Racer is working on.

One of my "pals" growing up had a 62. He was one-of-the-cool-guys in town. White with red interior. 327 with "Corvette" cam....(whatever that was). I know it would 'sing' when he squeezed-it! And he did right regular......
