Happy New Years Eve! I was playing around with colors last night on this roadster. I started with a line drawing:
First, added some seafoam green. I like this one:

Tried out a red outline - it almost gives it a 3D feel:

Here, I tried using purple on a green background - I think the purple is way too dark:

Here's the opposite. I kind of like this one.

I think the plain seafoam is my favorite - what do you guys think?

    Hello,

During our Christmas Vacation days, there was usually a swell running from the consistent Northwestern storms headed down the Pacific coastline. Those Alaska Peninsula storms were notorious for bringing in big waves and consistency not seen any other time. If we planned it right, we left on Friday night after school, so we would get 7 days of Baja surf.
We would be home for Christmas.

If the waves were so-so, we would head out on the 26th for the “Gathering of The Tribes” in Big Bear City, local mountain area with a bunch of teenagers, for the annual gathering until New Year’s Day, if we could make it that long.

Or, instead of competing with a 1000 other So Cal surfers in the local South Bay to the OC for waves, we conveniently had our family Christmas Holiday celebrations and headed down the coast to Baja to ride empty waves for the whole week, until New Year’s Day. Traditionally, So Cal highways/freeways were relatively empty on New Year’s Day. The Rose Parade, The Rose Bowl, and family get togethers, etc. made traveling on Coast Highway free and easy on the way home.

Since we all knew the moving box design of the surf vans on Coast Highway, we decided to see if the longboards would fit inside of the vans, they were held up with solid oak planks sideways, like a surf rack inside of the headliner area. This still gave plenty of room for head clearance. Now, if there was a stop over in San Diego for more supplies, we could go inside the stores without worrying about someone walking away with our boards strapped on top of the vans.

In Baja, at night, we slid the longboards under the vans and piled up “stuff” around them for security. No thefts of any kind, despite our anti robber techniques. No one wanted to drive on a dusty road in the pitch black darkness to just steal some longboards. Plus, the vans were all in a circle pattern for extra security. But, the one end of the circle was always open, facing the ocean and waves. That way, we all were able to sit in the vans and see the sunset or early morning waves with the side doors open.

Great waves to share with only our friends and good times was had by all of us for 10 days. Hot dang!!!

The custom version, if there was ever the time and money, was a chopped top Econoline Van with the longboard inside of the van. A slight rake kept the hot rod angle in place for the extra cool look cruising down Coast Highway all the way to the border and down to the empty surf spots.
