68 years ago my grandmother Jessie bought my 1954 wagon brand new from Blue Ridge Motors and it was the workhorse for her flower shop, she retired it the late 1960's and my dad did a cosmetic restoration, paint and new tires, my dad decided to sell the wagon and I told him I would buy it, he had insurance on too many cars so he gave it to me..

The car sat in the barn for many years before Danny rebuilt it from the ground up.

This one has been together for seven years. I’ve driven it a lot and enjoyed almost 17,000 trouble free miles. It’s time to make some changes over the winter…

You have a very good looking Comet wagon! Many years ago I owned one that looked just like it. One of my favorites!

Started building my T in '66. It's been on the road since '73. Driven every year. Only been on a trailer once. Started with a 303 Olds. Put the 425 Nailhead in in '77. I built the frame with oxy/acet torches. Nothings ever broken. Just a good driver. No show queen. Been fun.

I am coming up on 54 years of owning my Cyclone. It has gone through a couple of major builds the last one completed a year and a half ago.
Here is what it looked like in 1975:

Twenty five years on my T-Bird. The car was last painted in 84 but the paint is still very nice. I've gone through every mechanical system except the automatic transmission. I traded something, forget what, for a Cruise-O-Matic to replace the Ford-O-Matic maybe 10 years ago. It's still sitting in the back of my shop.

I have owned my 57 Chevy since 1966. I am the second owner. My convertible has seen many changes being a 60s hot rod with mag wheels and a hopped up 302 with headers and wild cam. I used to show it in Buffalo at the Clutch Artists annual show. In the early 70s the Classic Chevy was formed and was the fifth in That about member to join this national club. That's when it was an actual club. After seeing American graffiti in 1973, I decided I wanted a throw back to the 60s. That's when it started to become a custom. Skirts were added along with whitewalls and the rear was dropped some. I kept adding to the 60s theme by having the hood louvered, the bullets molded in, a new naugahyde interior with custom buckets and finally a milder 283 engine. In recent years I've put in an Imperial grill added the bubble skirts and shaved all the emblems and door handles plus a set of lowered springs and lowering blocks. An onboard compressor raises and lowers the air shocks. The4 speedtrans was removed in favor of a 3speed with overdrive. Athirdmotor ,a brand new 307 replaced the 283. That about brings it up to its present condition. I am finally finished and have the car that I dreamed about at amuch younger age.

My Dad bought our '40 Tudor Standard in early 1965. Earliest running pic I have of it is from April '65. I've had it for 42 years now. Goes to my son Kenny, then to grandson Kenny Jr.

Thought I would add some pics!

I traded for my 38 Chevy 48 years ago. It was an Ikea Chevrolet:) No title. A bill of sale. I got it legally titled in 1977, a couple of hoops to jump but nothing tough. It was a daily driver for awhile then from the late 80's to 2012 or so it was off the road. I've had the car from when I was married to first time until my third marriage:) None of the exes wanted it!! 38 engine_0002.jpg IMG_1136.JPG

Kudos to you guys for keeping your old cars. I have lots of friends who still have cars they bought new way back when. I could never afford to keep them. But then when you have owned a hundred street cars, race cars ect... It would take a BIG building to store them in. LOL.

  18. Have had my 1965 Barracuda now for 38 years. Bought it for $500 after getting some insurance money after a dump truck totalled my Opel while in tech school for auto body. Painted it 33 years ago and rebuilt the motor shortly after. 20211230_204008.jpg

I'm not very good at keeping vehicles very long. I tend to put a lot of miles on stuff, so when stuff starts to wear out, they usually got sold, or parted out. Most of the many hot rods I've had hung around 3-5 years before the hot rod ADD kicked in and a new hot rod was built, and the old one got sold off.

The longest term vehicle we have ever had, sadly, is my wife's off topic grocery getter at 16 years. I had my 50 Dodge 4x4 truck for 12 years before that lady turned in front of me and killed it. My 48 Plymouth business coupe is the next long term vehicle we have had. It got built after the 50 Dodge 4x4 got killed, and was on the road the next spring. We have driven it about 80,000 miles since the spring of 2011. Its still here, and my wife loves it, so it will probably be here longer then the truck it replaced was.
My alvar is my 48 Plymouth near the top of the Rocky Mountain National Park, Memorial Day weekend, 2016. We were at about the middle of a 2800 mile vacation then. The picture is of the car as it looks now. Gene

I vividly remember picking up this car on Saturday, August 2, 1986. It had been disassembled to reverse the doors and the owner gave up on the car. I did my best to get him to keep it but he insisted on selling it. I readily paid his asking price and speculated to him that it was worth more but he wouldn't budge.
When I agreed to buy it, the front clip and the rear fenders, etc were off the car. All the paint had been scraped off the body and rear fenders with a razor blade:eek: and the body and rear fenders were in gray primer.;) The front clip was still yellow. I told him I'd be there to get it as soon as he got the fenders back on it as I intended to DRIVE it home if at all possible... we had quite a thing going back in those days about driving your car.;)
A pal we called the Telephone Man (name was Jim Bell;):D) drove me several hours down to Roanoke Rapids, NC to get the car early that Saturday morning. We were riding in his chopped 45 Ford pickup that we had chopped together in December of 1976.
The owner had removed the original stock taillights that were on the car when it was first built. He intended to relocate the taillights to the rear bumper but had not done it... thus no taillights, or brake light!
We hooked up a red tractor trailer side marker light to a wire to the brake light switch and duct taped it to the edge of the trunk!:D You could see it but you had to be looking!:D
We planned a route home through back country roads that were sparsely populated.
After we crested the first long hill and started the decline on a straight stretch through the fields, I floored it and took off!! Dang car would go!! Later, my pal in the pickup following me told me that he started checking his gauges and speedometer as he thought his truck had cut off!:D:D He said I just left him! Great memories.:)

After all these years I still feel honored to be the current custodian of my pal, Mike Wiley's, car.;):)
I've rambled long enough... Happy New Year!:D

I have had this for 13 years. Put tires, tune up and lowered it. Now I am converting the front to disc with the Scarebird kit. Time goes quick for sure.

OT Camaro Ragtop, purchased new, 33 years ago, joked with friends I was creating my own classic, now a nice survivor car, proud of myself for keeping it original and just like that the time has gone by. All my older hobby cars I seem to keep 8-10 years. Only long time car is my Dads Midget racer he built when home from WWII, was raced till 74 with many updates, changes, I drove t 70 / 74. I am restoring it to a early 50's version with a V8 60, Been in my family since first race 1948.

I pulled this out of a field in South Dakota, for $750.00 in 1988.

I’ve updated every one of my cars by selling them. The next owners took them to another level.

My good friend Dick Deutsche bought this '62 in '62, as a special order with a 6 cyl, 3-speed w/OD. He parked it back in '76, and it stayed put 'till a few months ago. I convinced him to take it out, dust it off, and put it back if that's what he wanted to do. He did just that. This puppy sat on a dirt floor with 4 flat tires, and the frame about 1" from the dirt. The building is open on one side. Luckily, Dick had the critter undercoated at the dealership when he bought it. The underside is perfect, and the lower panels have very little rust. I pulled back the tarpaulin cover and opened the drivers door, expecting to see the worst. No dead bodies, no chain saws, not even any dust. It even smelled like a '62 Chevy should. The dash picture is just how I found the inside, with no cleanup..... dicks 62a.jpg Dicks Impala.jpg
