I’m a nut for Soduko? I used to look forward to the Sunday NY times crossword puzzle.
    All seems so easy now;)

I believe this issue is “ home built” vs “vintage”.

Going the home built 2021 car route can be a quagmire.
On the other hand, “ repairing” or purchasing a vintage car and getting it titled per year of manufacture is much much simpler.

States can vary on this as some consider a new build “vintage” as long as it resembles the vehicle it’s based on.
Maybe this is what he means by written and unwritten rules.

    My state for instance....
If I was building a Model A, it’s much simpler if I tag it as a Model A.
If I go the “ new home built construction” route....
    That’s a quagmire.
    States vary so....

When I re-titled my A as a street rod from a passenger car (required after modifications like the chopped top),.Pennsylvnia vacated the original title and re-issued me a completely new tiltle and VIN tag,

I don't see anything posted that is much help to any rodders in Ohio? More like just a warning, without any hard information that really would assist another Ohio member.

If your paperwork was as clear as your posts I'm surprised you even got inspected.

Inspection??? What's that? We don't have "Inspections" in Wyoming.

I stopped reading the paper a long time ago, ever since I discovered the on line NYT games page. You can access their entire archive of Friday, Saturday (my fave) and Sunday crosswords and chose hard Sudokus which are a blast daily. Like @X38 I am not a fan of cryptic crosswords but the Acrostic is my wife's fave. We are all the back to 2006 in the archives on that brain buster.

  14. Apparently you took a self built car to be inspected in Ohio.
Apparently you followed (or believe you followed) the written rules in the Ohio Revised Code book.
Once at the inspection, I am guessing your car failed due to the inspectors apparently getting their information from a source other than the Ohio Revised Code book you used and they won't tell you the source of the guidelines/rules/laws that they go by.
You then go on to state "ask lots of questions before you go".

I appreciate that you are attempting to help others but, it would be MUCH more helpful if you would include what exactly your problem with them was.

It would also be tremendously helpful if you included a list of questions that you feel need to be asked.

We have a stringent inspection process here in Australia when building a hot rod. It is vital that you know the requirements before you start, and are capable of building to those guidelines (or having it built to the guidelines). The responsibility is on you to turn up prepared, and with a vehicle that meets the standards. Too many simply slap something together and get a rejection at inspection. Too many then want to blame the system, instead of taking responsibility themselves........
Just calling it as I see it.......

Seems to me a NSRA23 Safety checkout(available, w/o charge afaik, in all 50 States) would be a fair 1st step. & a decently clear commentary on what happened & went down. Otherwise a pointless guessing game, which is, well, pointless.
So, this thread needs one of those pancake-topped-bunnies for effect. Which I don't have. Sorry... ;( .

This is possibly the most important thread I have seen in a long time. I have been really depressed lately and needed to see some topless chicks and pancake topped bunnies. But the absolute best thing during this season of kindness to see a racoon showing tender love to a kitty cat. There is some crazy shit here and THAT is traditional. LOL

  25. Well I took your advice today :)

I arrived for an Ohio inspection with a good long list of questions to ask :)

I got as far as "how long has your wife been a woman because it's clear she wasn't born one?" ... this came after the question "based on your breath, I must ask, what kind of dog food did you have for lunch?"

Next thing I remember was waking up in the ambulance ...:mad::(

Have you bought dog food lately? They probably were jealous you could afford it. :)

Took my car for a NYS inspection. The inspector asked "what's that under the hood?'
    I told him "it's a flux capacitor"
He flipped the switch...and my car disappeared into the future. I failed the inspection.
He said he would call me if the car ever came back. I took a taxi home.

The Aussie hot rod/TAC assessment process appears good.

The state-based engineering process for modifying other vehicles (like my avatar) is painful. The National Code of Practice is not very well structured, and open to worse interpretation by individual certifiers than a mythical Ohio inspection.

    Cheers,

Before we et even more off topic-from the Ohio BMV:
Title a Salvage or Self-Assembled Vehicle
Before a self-assembled vehicle or a salvage vehicle can be titled in Ohio, an inspection must be completed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The inspection is to

    • verify ownership of all parts
    • review all required documentation
See the Ohio State Highway Patrol Vehicle Inspection Gateway for more information or to schedule an inspection. (https://services.dps.ohio.gov/VehicleInspection#! ).

Waiting for the OP to tell us where things went wrong.

For the OP, if you are having communications issues with the BMV, contact your personal, local state representative. Ask them to contact the appropriate department. That's what they are there for.
