refrigerator stainless > see if there is an appliance recycler nearby.

  2. Most old dishwashers had color panels stashed inside the outer door. White would be showing, but some had actual stainless panels, also black plastic ones. May be worth a look.

  3. One of my uncles always bought Nash automobiles, he was a sly old fox. When I did brake work, I learned to do only one wheel at a time, using the other side to make sure that everything was as it should be.

I think I've decided to go with engined turned aluminum for the center console. Speedway has sheets of it online. I needed some other things from speedway anyway so I might as well take advantage of the free shipping over 100$.
    Thanks for all the suggestions

  7. Fyi, the speedway engine turned aluminum is fairly delicate. The surface finish polishes off easily.

I wanted to get engine turned stainless steel but speedway only has aluminum.

  10. Look at McMaster Carr for small pieces of almost any metal. I used to buy quite a bit of this and that for tooling at work. Most of the big distributors had minimum lot charges of $100 and up.

Fixed the backwards brake, polished hubcaps a bit. Installed kickdown cable. Not much but I'm really happy to work on the Rambler again. Really looking forward to its first carshow in February hopefully 20220118_155059.jpg 20220118_163924.jpg

I feel bad not working on Brooks car the last month plus. We have our local indoor winter car show in a month and we need to get busy so we can at least roll it in so the Rapid City crowd can see what a 20 year old kid ( and dad) has been doing. We finally got his rear tires ordered so it was time to get busy building his rear wheels. We took the center out of the rambler wheel and used a salvage yard white spoke wheel for the hoop. This will result in a stock appearing wheel but be 8” wide. DD7C2543-488F-4D6E-B22B-B5D64A58474E.jpeg I figured out our backspace and then used this little pointer that I clamped solid to the trailing arm. I then rotated the rim until it just touched the hoop all the way around. 7E2066B5-04FA-4C8C-8CCF-0A869DD75E33.jpeg I then tacked the wheel together thru the old rivet holes checking multiple times during the welding process that the wheel was still running tru. 84CE815D-F124-4943-B353-DB3BFFE0A309.jpeg The white spoke hoops had some minor rust pitting so it got a coat of glaze and some high build primer.

I buy that kind of stuff at my local recycle place a lot. Built many things from it. I would check there. Also, if you have any truck junk yards around, you could look for an old lunch wagon. We got a pretty nice piece for my buddy's basement bar off of one. Gene.

I had the day off so I got Brooks rear wheels ready for tires on Monday. CA5D3E43-487B-48D7-94ED-8B88FAA51B94.jpeg The hoop on the left was the stock rambler wheel that we took the center out off to make the new wheels. 752FA82B-5D1E-4DF3-8C38-E5CAE34C64B9.jpeg Here’s the difference in width. It’s a huge difference but will still be pretty subtle. DD9AC0FA-FF1E-4D25-9A90-34EFD6AB3B2A.jpeg

We had quite the time painting the aircleaner lid. Blasted it clean, primed it and then pained it the same stainless steel color that we used on the wheels. We sprayed it and it came out blotchy from the metallic in the paint. Gave it a light buff sprayed it again and it came out the same way. So today I masked it and gave it a two tone to cover the blotchy parts. I think it looks even better than if the first job would have come out right. It adds just a little but is still really subtle. 02FB35BB-12C1-4A04-A27F-1665F62F25CA.jpeg E3BB6005-0264-4C23-8642-4CBC4684EC4C.jpeg

Y'all have helped me so much during the progress of this build. Your input has been helpful and motivating. 20220124_122449.jpg 20220124_122457.jpg and thank you again, Dad, you've been the most helpful during this build. I can't say it enough, I would not be where I'm at now without your help.

Looking forward to it's first car show!

More stuff done today! Progress is fun!
Cleaned the carb. Here's a before and after. Pics really don't do this justice. 20220124_145500.jpg 20220124_151436.jpg also took off the old throttle cable bracket thing. Repainted the firewall black. Now there's more space! 20220124_152422.jpg 20220124_152519.jpg installed clips to hang an American Motors windshield fluid bag my Papa gave me. 20220124_154037.jpg 20220124_154046.jpg finally got the last of the floor patched up. We seam sealed top and bottom. Dad sprayed on some undercoating. I reinstalled the wired up ignition switch. Hope we can get the gauge cluster back in the dash before the carshow. 20220124_170030.jpg
