Damn. That Texas car just keeps getting sh*ttier, with every new buyer. It looked a lot better 2 or 3 years past.
Yeah, it showed up here a few years back IIRC and was a diamond in the rough then. Time has not been kind....
I've seen the car in person a few years ago when it was at the Autorama, and it was a sight to behold. A really super cool survivor that wore it's age well. I think it could still be that. This car has changed hands a number of times recently, and my impression/hypothesis is that the engine swap was done poorly, and significantly compromises the way the car drives. So when someone new buys the car, it's a cool survivor, but the allure wears off when the fact that the car really can't be driven comes to fruition, along with the realization that it's a load of expensive work both in parts (due to the Hemi), and in possibly fabrication. I can almost guarantee that the centerlink was cut and recessed to fit the Hemi oil pan or exhaust, but it also limits its travel, widening the turning radius. Again, this is a guess, but I'm putting the pieces together in my head based on the fact that I have personally put a big block Mopar in a late 50s Ford, and in doing so, had to figure my way around the fact that both the Y block and FE were front sump oil pans, with a chassis and steering designed for that configuration, and center sump oil pan on a B/RB engine, which of course in this case, the 331 is a rear sump. It was a real conundrum, but I figured it out and 20 years later the damn car still runs great. Without looking at the car that closely, I don't know what the solution would be here, but the idea of a welded or fabricated centerlink kind of freaks me out, if that's even a possibility. And changing the engine to something else that fits better ruins the history and allure of the car. So it's a bummer. It's also a relatively undesirable make and model. And, FWIW, though it does have a well documented history, it doesn't have a big-name pedigree attached to it. Like it or not, that stuff makes a difference. I'd be potentially interested in it, at the right price, despite the fact that I need another project car like a hole in my head. The current asking price is not near that, IMHO, in light of the circumstances.
