Folks Of Interest Rest In Peace Dirty Old Man Dave

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by GreenMtnBoy, Dec 27, 2021.

  1. We lost a True Hot Rod Hero yesterday.
DOM “Dirty Old Man” Dave Castile went to the racetrack in the sky to tear it up with the rest of the greats that went before.
He chose his handle DOM because back in his Dirt Track Racing days he was always in the back of the pack covered in red Georgia Clay. He was a Machinist and a true Old School Gear Head. Everything he built had 3 Pedals because that’s what real hot rods have. He was one of the original Sock Fuckers and our Patriarch. He said he liked hanging with us “yungins’ “ because we reminded him of himself back in the day. Rumor has it he raised a little hell and ran a little shine way back when.
We’ll miss his general Ass Chewin’s and Rants when we weren’t “Actin’ Right!”
But we’ll especially miss and remember the fatherly advice and stories he’d dole out just as freely.
His son Frank will be carrying on his father’s hot rod legacy.
    Gods SPEED D.O.M

  18. I met Dave at one of the early editions of Steel In Motion, 2014 I think it was, and was instantly impressed with how down to earth and friendly he was. Whenever we saw each other at various events we'd always catch up. Dave was passionate about the hobby/sport and he had done everything in his long life. Master machinist, car builder, racer...he did it all and his store of knowledge was deep. He had one of the best bullshit detector meters I've ever seen (and he wasn't afraid to use it). When I got a cancer diagnosis a couple of years ago Dave was one of the first who called and his words of encouragement and concern were genuine and much appreciated by me.

When I saw the news of his passing I went back through my files to try and find a photo that captured Dave in his element and found one that was taken at Steel in Motion in 2014. That's Dave in his Model A roadster, surrounded by friends and ready, always ready, to give it a go. Rest in Peace Dave, your friends will miss you.

Dave and I were kind of kindred souls. We only knew each other through the HAMB, but we both were in the lubricants biz, Dave was a AMSOIL dealer, so he would check in with me on oil related questions or issues. He also sent me notes to tell me he agreed with me on some slightly political posts that would come up from time to time, things we couldn't say on the forum. He told me that as he got older he got more conservative. I don't really consider myself conservative, I'm actually fairly liberal, in the classic sense of the word; but today's liberals have gone so far left they make classical liberals look like conservatives. Anyway, I will miss him, he was a good guy. I will raise a toast in Dave's honor this evening.

    Sorry to hear this.
Danny said that he was a curmudgeon and helped others.
    I like that.
Means he didn't have a lot of patience for stupid stuff. Cuz stupid stuff leaves less time and energy for good stuff... such as helping others.
God bless Dirty Old Man, family and friends.
