Partsdawg’s post reminded me that I’ve also been lusting for a 327, Rambler that is. My old buddy has done some remarkable things with his Studebaker engines so I thought maybe I’d find me an orphan to mess with. Like this….

My current dream is for a Ford V-8... a flat-head with a little attitude, nothing really fancy.
I've built dozens of SBCs, a few BBCs (the last had Merlin heads, stroker crank and a Dyer 8-71). I'm currently running a former dream engine, a 327 with Trips that runs like a dream.
I've got a '40 frame to set the yet to come flatty in but that's as far as I've come. Gotta dream, baby!

  10. Mine would be a 409 with dual quads or a 427 FE with dual quads. Both with four speeds. Then I would need a nice Biscayne or base level Galaxie to put them in. Of course a Max Wedge 426 would be nice too!

When I described mine, I was in the process of working on my truck...so I guess I naturally migrated to what I could do to it's engine. IF money was free...I like the 451 B block Mopar engines (as in B rather than RB).
73 400, forged 440 light weight crank and H beam rods cut down for the 400 block. B1 heads. I really like the Lunati cam I used to have in a 426 wedge motor, even though it was spec'd at 4500 to 8500. The motor was built to go to 7000 safely. This engine should be able to do that also. They make a very nice light weight piston for it and .990 pins. The rotating mass is way below a 440. I know that there are better intakes, but a dual quad tunnel ram just makes me smile. Of course I'd put a set of Carters on it rather than Holley's. 600HP on pump gas should get me into trouble quite nicely.

I should maybe try and finish this dream, or the other 409 block on the stand behind it.

JS: Topic title/Q, & innovative adapting... *his* dream mill...:D .

Mine? Well, you did ask... :D :D & mentioned money no object. Includes talent, too? :D .

~'32 Doble Steam engine system, in a cabriolet, or coupe, of the proper factory styling. Like Leno's. Except w/current-styled controls, don't like the 3-steering-wheels-on-top-of-each-other OEM version.

    Sterns-Knight or Willys-Knight sleeve-valve engine, supercharged, in a cabriolet.

    Hopped-up n blown Tatra v8. In a ~'13 Stude roadster w/a turtle-back(T-styled bucket). Front-engined on this one, thank-you.

Tucker engine, supercharged. & an air-cooled Franklin helicopter engine (base from which Tucker built his), turbo'd, both in tuckers. One a clone of the convert that didn't get built, other in the little sports-car that also didn't get built.

A DOHC Stude v8. Copy of the Indy mill done ~'52, patterns are locked away forever at Speedys'. So maybe a new version of the old. Aw, hell, why not both. Housed nicely in '55 lemon/lime Speedsters.

AF-16 DOHC Fronty aluminum head(repop) on an aluminum Donovan block w/a Miller-style centrifugal supercharger.
    In an early ~'30 dirt-tracker.

    An all-aftermarket acvw in a featherwieght V-Rod. Almost clone of V-Rods of A.Brizio, K.Fuller, T.Medley, & others.

An all-aftermarket acvw(leaving out the particulars - :) , but acvw's to feature ENDYN piston/head porting technologies) in a '59 Stude convert Lark, mimicking the ~'59 Stude/Porsche factory experimental sedan version that contained a flat-4 "Poosh-ah" mill.

A stout 255 Indy 4-cam in an early Ford GT. Already done, but *I* don't have one... .

    A stout magnesium-everything/aluminum-rest 183 Foyt 4-cam in an early-style Cobra. Bag-o-snakes n mech F.I., thankyou.

    A blown magnesium-everything/aluminum-rest 427 side-oiler gear-driven Cammer, in a late-style Cobra.

Blown Stude v8 in a ~15->'17 Stude tub, preferably a center-door version. May as well add a qtr-speed cam drive, magnesium rockers too.

    Home-made aluminum DOHC, AF-16 style, on a 169cid Stude 6.
    In a replication of a ~ '10->12 EMF roadster w/Mother-in-Law seat. :) .

    Blown Miller 8 in a front-wheel-drive board-tracker.

Straight8 Stude 337 in an '30's Indy racer.

    Straight8 Stude 250 in a '30's boardtracker.

    Kaiser's Al/hemi/SOHC/roller-rocker/head 6, supercharged, in a ~'27 Nash woodie-bodied something(pu, screenside, or wagon).

Supercharged NOVI in a T-bucket pu.

While the thread didn't mention where the mill was to live, w/o the car, it's just (maybe) jewelry, unless it's living on a dyno proving a concept works as designed. Car n mill need & compliment each other to create a theme to showcase the mill.

Dream factory keeps on going... :D .

    Marcus...

333EE0A4-EBB2-457E-922F-E076DCB57B2A.jpeg Just about to fire up my dream engine. Small block, looks like it was just pulled out of a 62 Vette. It has a Thumpr cam, lightly ported heads, about 9 to 1. Should make the light weight coupe a blast to drive!!

    Hello,

It was our 2nd time building the same 283 block and this time, we had to have a completely new build as we went a little larger in the bore. Now, it was a 292 c.i. SBC block. Our first SBC block was a long block partially assembled and all we needed were heads, manifold, distributor and carburetors for our street legal motor.

After using the 283 SBC completed motor in our 1940 Willys Coupe, it ran strong and had respected times for a street legal coupe. But it just was not competitive with the top runners in the classes. B/Gas at first and with more runs, it was getting better, but still left us empty for more power.

The coupe was set up nicely with how we added and modified the things necessary to be street legal and competitive. The 283 had an Isky Cam/Lifter kit, ported/polished Chevy truck heads, plus 6 Strombergs.

61 years ago, this was our dream engine build. A powerful 292 c.i. SBC blower spec/parts motor for going after the national C/Gas Coupe record.
upload_2022-1-2_5-5-6.png It now had as much blower spec parts to make a very powerful SBC motor. We had one of the first Isky-Gilmer belt drives that came out during this time period through our connection in Los Angeles with Isky and Edlebrock.

For us, this was a powerful SBC motor that ran on the street, but for all intents and purposes, it was a competition motor. Not for long distance cruising or even daily driving. It could go to the local drive-in restaurant parking lots, but the gas stops had to be timed. The motor ran a very good temperature and did well when we wanted to hear and see the performance.

But, if we were to build a reliable daily driver for school and work, it would have to be a carburetor version of the SBC. Perhaps the original 283, but this time, a Paxton/McCulloch supercharger.

There used to be an old 33/34 Ford Sedan that raced and had one of these in it. Doubt that it was turboed. I saw it run once when I was stationed in California . Think it was called "Big Al".

Always was a fan of your car............but it would take a lot more modification to go that fast. I'd also be concerned about how much lift those front fenders would have at those speeds. As for the 1/4 vs 1/8 mile thing............many cars are going faster in the 1/8 mile these days than many cars went in a 1/4 mile in "the day". The faster you go the more modifications it takes to stay safe, and the less streetable they become. I like your car just the way you originally built it and it will always be a classic to me.:)

While it would no longer be Hamb friendly, I'd love to see someone build an old Chevy (or Ford) truck like this thats basically stock appearing outside but upgraded underneath and with an original inline six AND THEN O-ring the heads and put a turbo on it. Plenty of room under that hood to fit one in. Kind of a High Tech Nostalgia. Jus sayin :p............

I guess this engine somehow never crossed my radar so I had to look into it, man that had to be one wild Pontiac street car.
The engine is for sale but in case anyone has ideas about it you better be sitting down when you read............

IMG_20220102_0019.jpg A flathead with Federal Mogul heads. I saw a set for sale 25 years ago. I know there is a complete set up in the classifieds for $4500. The heads are silicone bronze (runs cooler), so no need for a water pump when racing it.

I'll have a 6-71 blown Chrysler 354 Hemi, maybe with a long runner manifold (perhaps later an intercooler).
