Got myself a running and driving Chassis, my plan is a boat tail speedster if I can get my ability up to my ambition.

That looks like a REALLY NICE chassis and drivetrain to start with, a perfect platform for speedster building.

Any thoughts on how you're going to build the body? Start with a cowl and a hood, or all from scratch, or ?

    All pretty much from scratch.
The car had been restored in Las Vegas before coming to Australia, body is going on a sbc hot rod so I bought the chassis, all looks like new, with cast iron drums and all new components.
Motor looks rebuilt has 85 psi comp, runs quiet.

    @Brendan1959 - you've got the pieces!

@KevKo - that silver one looks so well balanced. I'd love to see more of that car if anyone has photos.

The silver one is aluminium and built in Norway.
Was published in swedish Gasoline Magazine #12/2017.

Here are some crappy pictures I took of the article.

    Thanks @Mikko_ !

I really like that car. It's interesting that the boattail just falls off at the bottom in the back. Most boattails I've seen are fully resolved underneath and it ends up looking like the car has two fronts. This one just looks like a flipped rowboat. It probably doesn't help airflow, but it looks nice.

Just a note : BEFORE you build ANYTHING : MAKE SURE YOUR PAPERWORK IS "STRAIGHT"!!! Does it have a title ? AND IN YOUR NAME!!!

It's not a boat tail but it's got a banger in it and it's a lot of fun..

Great project and I'll be watching! I love boat tail speedsters. The trick with a Model A is the degree to which it flares out at the rear, which makes the corners stick out oddly from beneath the boat tail.

Here's a pic of a pair of Model A boat tails. The blue one in the foreground is mine--it's a Mercury Sport Body--and the A-frame corner is hidden by that that little wing under the tail light. Made if from the corner of a '36 Ford humpback decklid.

Rebuilding one that is on a model T frame with A running gear. The wb is 87'' now. Getting the frame back from blasting tomorrow, I hope. Primer tomorrow and put together on S 20211003_131917.jpg at.

Gonna use old hoods (bonnets?) for the boat tail or are you going to fab them from scratch?

Right now, scratch. would like to use aluminum. rebuilding all of the running gear. Then will start on the body. Will be a big change. Has a 27 Whippet grill shell, and rad.

    thanks,

    Some minor progress.
Seat base legs cut down to lower seat
    Brackets for sliders welded on
Bases 3 weeks in molasses then painted
    Squabs reattached and sliders fitted.
Now I can start working out the size of the cockpit, which should guide the body outline.....
