Happy coincidence. I had a quite a bit darker blue (a '30 A color) but the paint store couldn't mix that formula in single stage. So I kept picking colors until we got to this one. ;-)

  5. I realy like that color. I got single stage on my car, couldn't see paying for paint twice.

Thanks, in this the look of single stage was what I was going for. Base/clear has a different look to my eye. Cost wasn’t a factor, although I guess this is a pretty low budget build by today’s standards, so it wasn’t an expensive paint job. I think there’s more effort in this as opposed to a base/clear kid, but that may be just my take.

I’m in the shopping stage! I like the Salt flats rollers, but they’re so thick I’d need all new REALLY long studs, and they’re much too wide at 8”. What I’d like is a set of 40’s MOPAR 16’s, and some DeSoto small caps. I have lots of time until spring to figure out what it’ll be shod with.

  11. Single stage just looks right on these cars. the solid depth is different than a base/clear

I would do skinny 17s IF you could get the right tires

I had some tractor paint left over painting the underside of floor yesterday. Ford blue tinted with black so it’s a close match for parts nobody will see (easily). So I painted the topside today.

Quick and dirty strip of the gauge cluster and polish. I love it.

Right back atcha! I had to sort of sneak out of the house and disappear for a while to get this far! Just enough to reassure me my idea was gonna work. ;)

I am really digging the polished gauge surround! Nice touch and it works well with the blue-by-you hue. I am not sure I read this but what are you thinking for interior color? With that jag tail pipe I figure tan leather?

Really coming together nice. I could see it with some warm cream/ super soft tan colored 40 ford wheels with the 750/550 standards pretty easily.

looking forward to seeing what you land on for rollers, it’s all been rad thus far! Thanks for keeping us all posted and updated

I have enough of this, left over from the DeSoto. So again, the wagon is perhaps the nicest parts car ever. 64412B1A-5D76-4982-8219-3D2A40F42E64.jpeg

I’m going to have to look for some MOPAR 40’s 16” to get the correct bolt pattern, but yes, that be a good look. I’d probably go with body color.

Hi! We're back! Spent the winter in Sarasota, where we inherited my favorite aunt's (I guess I was her favorite nephew as well) house, and spend the winter cleaning up 45 years of stuff and some light remodeling. New kitchen, flooring, new driveway, paver patio(s) and general maintenance. We got back on Tuesday, yesterday was crappy here and we had to get our home here organized a little, so today I got some shop time in.
I got the deck lid hinges bolted on and the deck lid on, with the beautiful Austin Healy handle. The body is now bolted down, rather just setting on the chassis, and I got the steering hooked up. I have to bend both steering arms down a tiny fraction, as the tie rod hits the radius rods with weight on the chassis, but no big deal as I haven't painted the spindles yet, thinking I might have to tweak them a bit more.
The radiator lower hose outlet on the radiator is mis-aligned with the engine outlet, which incorporates a pretty cool looking trans cooler. The radiator has a cooler in the bottom tank, but I'd have to trim the fan about an inch to clear the fittings, I figure I'll need all the cooling I can get and don't want to trim the fan. A buddy here turned me on to an offset radiator hose fitting from Honest Charley that looks like it'll turn the trick, so my problem is solved!
I'm really excited to be back and working on the car(s), even though I was sad to leave as the weather was just beautiful when we left. I have to keep in mind the fun we'll have this summer, and the fun we'll have next winter in Sarasota, I want to take the car down with us. So, I have goals! And, once again, the T'bird will have to take a back burner...
