    What I have often contemplated is a 283, full roller , ported double humps, with every trick done to reduce friction and windage, with a Paxton or two, or even twin turbos, and look for 350 to 400 horsepower. This is something an enterprising hot rodder, likely with an engineering degree, or extensive engine and aeronautics background could have done around 1964.

  9. Back in the early 80,s i worked building V-8's and found the 301/302 Chev's to be very cool and dreamed of building one for myself, did it then waited 32 years to put it in something.

  10. I have a dream, or more like a fantasy, I would convince Steve Hill to sell me back the red car. I know where I could remove a good 400 lbs. Then I would build one of these and bolt it up to a 2 speed glide. Then go out and run some low 8's with it, still full fendered. Full 1/4 mile, like a drag race is supposed to be, no chickenshit 1/8 mile. That little red Model A still wants to race, and so do I !

    I think a V8 Ford 4 cam Indy car engine with the heads turned around as shown, ran these in champ dirt cars would be "Killer" in a 32 Ford Roadster. This would be my ultimate Roadster engine. 4-cam Ford.jpg

    At this point in my life I do not feel the need for a blown big block or a Cammer or Hemi. A rebuild of the 327/350
    horse I have had for the last 45 years would make me happy. It is a very tired but original bore block.
     
  13. My dream was/is my ’52 331 hemi. I bought it as a 16 yr old in ’64. I was literally a pile of parts in a basket but it is a HEMI!! I built it stock with a J C Whitney “3/4” cam (I still have no idea what its specs are!) and a homemade tunnel ram with a Rochester 4-Jet carb. I modified the long bellhousing bottom half to move the starter to the passenger side ‘cause it interfered with the Corvair steering gear on the Willys frame. Have been upgrading it for the past 55 or so years.

    First I added a Holley 3bbl carb. Added 600cfm sized aluminum inserts to the primaries to make it streetable in about ’70 but still had the tunnel ram. Tore down the car in ’72 and didn’t get back to it ‘til about ’94. Added a modified 354 iron manifold and had it bored 1/8” over by Ernie Hashim in Bakersfield CA. Ernie found a couple sets of stock 354 pistons made a good set of those and balanced the whole thing.

    Sometime in the late 90s I added a 340 Chrysler electronic distributor and MSD5 module. I also cut off the water pump from the cast iron timing chain cover and added a 4" stainless industrial water pump mounted like an alternator.

    Just this year I did some major mods; biggest one is I got rid of the small round-port 331 heads and added big port, big valve truck heads. That allowed me to add a set of large tube fender dump headers replacing the small tube glass-pak ones I had run for 20 or 30 years. You can now see my Dual Range Hydramatic and ladder bars hanging down. At the same time I got rid of the stock cast aluminum Chrysler oil filter can and adapted a small spin-on filter adaptor. Finally added a set of marine valve covers with the adjustable rocker bumps. That is strictly a vanity add, non- functional.

    Engine is still going strong and is still my dream engine.

    First build. Lucky it ran!

    Ran these glass pack headers for many tears but they hid all the good stuff under the car.

    Truck heads allowed fender dump headers. I built mufflers into the 5" collectors. Work great.

  14. Hands down dream engine is an early Hemi. Preferably with a 6-71.

    505 ci 427 with Dove PIE heads that have the tiny Glidden chambers, Cleveland tunnel ram on an adapter plate, .780 solid roller. Have most of the parts, just need some time. The 454 ci high compression with Crower rods will come first. That 330/600 cam is the King of the shagnasty idles, eh?

    I also have an L79, a .040 over Nova block, most of it is NOS except for the block.
    Built it in the late 80's, still never fired.

  19. Had it idling in my back yard one day and a kid from up the street several houses away came running down to my house. He said he just had to find out what that wicked sounding car was.

    Willys36, is that an old Drag Machine adapter I see in there? That place (and Irv) was amazing, nothing he couldn’t do. And like all good old shops, everywhere you looked there was something interesting that he cast, machined, welded, or otherwise modified.

    I guess for the time being I'll have to say the flathead I have because I always wanted a tricked out flathead but never gave much thought to its internals except for the cam. I've been collecting pieces for years for it. I'd have to win a powerball to afford to really do up the insides with all the goodies beyond a good ring, bearing and valve job to go with the cam. I only lack carb kits and distributor and plug wires for the outside.

    I've got a little OT dohc banger that I want to build but to do it the way I want will probably cost about the same as what that blown hemi that Marty showed dollar wise without counting inflation. Half the trick parts come from OZ and are hell for expensive.

    In '78 I lit up the 14:1 427 in the Galaxie, with the .660 DeLong cam and Milodon gear drive, uncorked in the garage. My roommate came running out the door pulling up his pants, he had been on the crapper, and the beastie was shaking the pictures off the walls

    1957 Rambler 327 or a 1958 Plymouth 350 just so I can spend all day at a car listening to the “experts” tell me those engines never existed.

    I have a 303 Olds,312 Yblock,292 Yblock and a nasty ass 390. I would not say no to a 427 cammer. Had a guy at back to the 50'S fire one up in his 63 Galaxie instant wood .

    In the past I dreamed of building one of my 392 Hemis into a nitro burning cacklefest motor to start up occasionally in the doorway of my shop and eventually use to partner with someone in a cackle car. I have some of the parts but I’m not sure I want to put any more money into it.

    What do I dream of? A 377 CI SBC with a tunnel ram, dual 660 center squirters, 2.02 heads, .600” lift cam, revs like a DZ, pulls like a LS-6!
