  1. I guess we know why it was removed from its home?

no damage to the chambers or pistons? Like they just rusted right off?

  3. Well, it will be easy to check the exhaust valve size.

And the $100 motor just got more expensive.

Do we get to see the cylinders, or do we just have to guess their condition?

I'm guessing there is rusty cylinders and nasty pits in the cylinder walls on any cylinder with the valves open, or broken off.
I'll bet the motor was in or under water a few times. Mud bogs anyone?

  6. This thread started out so good, and hopeful. The top end of the engine looked so very clean, like it was a recently rebuilt engine.

Now, all that is currently posted, is pictures, of rust and breakage .... junk from Space.

  9. If it’s a 327 and the block is not cracked, it’s worth fixing. I’d fix it even if I had to sleeve every cylinder.

Everybody's getting way too bummed out. 327 and 461 heads for $100, that's still very reasonable money.

Still need to determine if it is a 327, if it is a steel crank, and if the block is good. Could be a "302" and take us in a new direction. I figure any double hump head needs everything at the machine shop.

It’s a gm plate. Not sure about the bell housing if it was a Lakewood like in my willys I wouldn’t need the gm plate in the first place. The engine has been left to rot in my backyard. (o well) I still got all the adapter parts. I’m gonna snap a pic of the cylinders they are rusty. And soon I’ll have a picture with the pan off. If it’s a steal crank it’s safe to say this 327 whatever the heck it actually is will end up being a lost cause. 8376015F-5870-4B54-9A5C-F7B438171585.jpeg 7559F3A4-B889-4064-B972-956B5ECC644C.jpeg 923D8DED-E058-40D9-814B-A40F5E8C7FB2.jpeg 398784D4-3334-4C58-82A0-8016F327EBEB.jpeg

55-62 power glide adapter. Not sure what the bellhousing is?

take a picture or two of the back of the bellhousing, and the transmission, so we can more easily see what it is. It's likely an old adapter to mate a Jeep transmission to a Chevy engine, it was pretty common back then to use the PG adapter, it made it easier for the guy making the adapter, since it's a nice round mounting surface, and includes the starter mount.

They would have had to find a bellhousing the same bolt pattern as the power glide. Toss the automatic flywheel and find all manual parts to fit inside the auto adapter/bellhousing. Keeping the same flywheel tooth count or the starter wouldn’t work.

Yupp t90 short shaft. Also just found some numbers on the inside of the bellhousing looks like 0741458 A27BDE04-C034-455E-9CDC-D3CE237E8476.jpeg 5724A569-B247-44AC-BC40-76592C22D067.jpeg 4466215B-F014-436A-BF40-73C7B41A4C86.jpeg

that's the part number on the transmission front bearing retainer, I think from a Chevy, that is used with the bellhousing...it's not part of the bellhousing itself.

I found another one of those setups on a forum page,

    https://www.oldwillysforum.com/forum/index.php?threads/finos-‘58-wagon.16616/page-6

If you clean up the bellhousing well, you might find a small number cast in it, like FC-23 or something. If so, it's a TransDapt piece.

well I pulled the crankshaft out of it and spent 20 minutes cleaning it up. All the pistons are free in the bore so I'm not sure why the engine was stuck so tight. Gm103x 3836260? Those are the numbers on this.

    If it's 3836266, it's a 283 crankshaft.

    Is that a forged crank?

well hold on now is it 10 over? My dad actually noticed this.. I got four of them out of the bore they popped right out. Of course I marked everything twice and the bearings stayed in the caps rods. Leaving no chance for a mixup till I figure out what I'm doing.

I didn’t bother to check any numbers, the wide forging lap says otherwise.
