I just purchased a 62 from a friend who lost storage. I sold my 47 buick and so needed another project to tinker with. I painted this car in single stage urethane about five years ago for him. It needs the front and rear glass installed and the seats put back in. It was a 235 and three speed on the column. He bought a 261 from a machine shop supposedly rebuilt. The car is super solid and has the highly sought after JC whitney hubcaps. LOL. I'm stoked to have had the chance to own another 62. Lippy
Cool. I would think the high end Impala hardtop is rare with a six banger and a stick... love the wheel covers....
Thanks Mark. Yeah I thought it was kinda odd it was a six too. And the hubcaps are in great shape so they stay. Notice the bias tires.
What's/who's the dealer tag on the trunk ? Guess one my earliest flips was a 62 in this color - had it sold before I bought it - went up north from Dallas to South Bend if I remember correctly. Are you sure those are JC Whitney's - looks like a blue center.....
When my friend bought the car from his uncles estate the engine and trans were gone. He bought a four door 62 and got the trans, and got this 261 thats in it from a machine shop. My friend was not familiar with chevy sixes and he set the valves like hydraulics. To my knowledge no 261 had hydraulics. Also he didn't know how to time it cause he couldn't find the timing marks. The plug is still in the bellhousing. lol. It;s a tooth advanced and I need to set the valves yet. He told me he took a compression test and two cyls are at 60 psi. Wonder why? I have not had time to mess with it yet. he did a very nice job putting it together though. Engine compartment and engine look as nice as the outside. If you look at the front end pics, he put the headlights in and they are half a turn off. I don't know how he did it! I'll tear them out and see. Lippy
Stillrunners, I'll look at the tags tomorrow there is two. Yes those are JC whitney caps. Those are crossed flags in the centers. I asked the other day on here about the caps and someone put pictures up out of the catalogue. lol. I'll see if I can find the thread. Lippy
Very nice ride. The 62 was my first car. 283 4bbl and three speed on the tree. I got my first and only drag racing ticket in it. I was caught racing a 63 409 car. After about two miles he only had me by a front fender, then the cops stopped us!
Congrats! A 62 Impala is one of my favorite cars. I went to look at a 62 SS recently that I have been trying to talk a friend into selling for several years now. But, once he put a price on it, it was quite a bit more than it was worth. Sadly, it has sat outside for about 40 years now and rough. Looks like you got a great one!
I LOVE '62 Chevys!! My parents had one new growing up. Love the color and hubcaps. Nice car!! I recently had a pair of twins, both 4 speeds, one with a 327" and the other with a 425hp 409". Merry Christmas!!
62 Bubble tops were odd ducks back in 62 Most guys wanted the new Impala roof line. I'm thinking that the base bubble top was several hundred dollars cheaper than a similar equipped Impala. I had a black 62 Impala 283 two barrel glide two door hardtop for a year or two in the mid 70's. The body looked like it had been parked in a mall parking lot every day of it's life from 62 to 74 as it had the worlds largest collection of door dings on a black car. Sure was a fun car and you can haul a lot of stuff in the trunk of one
You did good. That is one beautiful '62. Love the color. Almost a Seafoam Green, but I'm sure GM had a different name. Always loved that engine turned insert in the side stainless. ......Don.
There was a man that had one the same color in my hometown. I never met the guy but I saw it and admired it often. I always looked for it. Thanks for sharing.
One of my favorites, and I have never owned one. Someone locally scored one a few years ago, totally OG, never been restored or painted, factory 409 and a 4-speed.
There were all kinds of oddities back in the 50's and 60's. One I had was a 65 SS convert, buckets, console with a 3spd on the column
