Well, after 3 months of dreaming and counting pennies, Rosie the Red 40 followed me home tonight. It is a survivor 40 Tudor Deluxe that was rumored to be bought new just northwest of where I live now by about 40 miles. It is a super solid, super straight car and I think it will make the perfect family hot rod. Ted, the man I bought the car from, had already gone through the brakes, replaced the fuel tank and threw a stromberg 97 on the original flathead and she fires right up and runs good. My initial plans include a drop axle from Sid's, and a rear reverse eye spring with some leaves removed from the front and rear, adding some tube shocks and going to a 5.50 front tire to add some rubber rake. I plan to rewire to 12v, add a pertronix ignition to replace the points and drive the wheels off of it for now. I am as happy as a young man can be, the whole experience was just how I'd drawn it up. Ted had an amazing collection of model a's, t's and early V8 cars, and it was super cool to hear his stories and see his lifetime collection of old ford stuff. I need to go back over and grab the extra flathead that was included in the 40 deal and I hope to snag some photos of his other cars. Stay tuned for some progress and more pics, and thanks for tagging along on my 40 tudor build!

  6. Congrats Ben! Glad to hear the deal worked out! That will make a perfect family hot rod! Hope to check it out in person soon.

Oh, and you know you might need a new avatar and/or username soon. :D I started life here as 52Styleline...but decided calling myself something to do with one vehicle was a problem after I sold that one. :p

    I sure will!

I hadn’t even thought about that yet lol MarshfieldSandy doesn’t have the same ring to it as guthriesmith.

I missed our local Christmas parade by a week. My wife did buy a wreath for it though so I’d better use it!

    Thanks man, that’s the plan.

Let me know if you ever make it down this way.

It’s a respray we suspect happened in the 70’s or 80’s. It’s a good 10 footer, but not original paint. I am not sure exactly what color it is.

  19. You've got a great plan. The only thing I'd add is a Pete and Jakes front sway bar. Post up more pics!

Nice 40, be sure to put the Midwest 40 Ford Gathering in Crane MO next September on you calender.

  21. Nothing better than an original '40. my buddy inherited a nice original 40 tudor a few years back. Apparently, people saw the charm in them when they were new, & babied them.

I will keep that in mind, and I will snap some more photos this weekend. It’s dark by the time I make it home from work throughout the week.

I’m not sure @bchrismer will let me miss that one. Poor guy has to deal with all of my daily questions about this car lol

  23. Now that I think about it, your car may already have a front sway bar. 1940 was the first year for it.

'40 DeLuxe had sway bar, Standards did not.

Nice 40!! Looks like a good one-also looks like an early 40 as well. Does it have flip up or tilt out ashtrays?

Ah the thrill of a new car... hard to leave it and go to bed the first few nights! Looks good in red. As you said, perfect family Hot Rod... I raised my 3 kids with a '40 sedan... lots and lots of room in that cavernous back seat area! You gonna like it!!!
