    I'm on my second cup of coffee trying to figure this one out. It seems as though I should recognize the car but I can't come up with a driver/owner name. The picture is definitely reminiscent of Lion's Drag Strip. I also agree with the assessment of the grill/body combination. I had done the same thing to my '58 Corvette during that era.

    The "Bill's Garage" credit on the fender is very likely the "Bill's Garage Dyno Tuning shop" that is still located on Olympic Boulevard in East Los Angeles. East L.A. and Long Beach were directly connected by one of the early SoCal Freeways (now I710) so it was fairly convenient for racers on our side of town to reach that track, even in those days. The owner/operator of Bill's Garage Dyno Service for the last 50 years has been Bill Blakeney a long-time friend and fellow competitor in NHRA Super Stock racing. <https://www.facebook.com/Bills-Garage-Dyno-Tuning-317879684894702/>. I remember Bill mentioning that he had bought the business at that location from "Old Bill" but I never had a last name to go with that title. It may very well have been the "Bill" that El Gringo mentioned but I can't verify that. The last time I saw Bill Blakeney (at the funeral of a mutual friend) he was experiencing some fairly severe mobility issues of his own. (Arthritis and a lifetime of walking on concrete floors takes a dreadful toll on aging bodies!) Another clue in the picture is the fact that, during the 1960s, Doug Thorley's shop was located on Whittier Boulevard a fairly short distance from the Olympic Boulevard location of Bill's Garage and the "Headers by Doug" credit was very common at Lion's. I wish I could be more definitive about the picture but that's about all that I can come up with today.

    I have a few pictures somewhere of Corvette pictures taken at Lions. There was another 59-60 Corvette called Namu Killer Whale that ran there also. Good memories. I'll look for those pictures.

    @carcruse, you did well to keep it for all of those years. I bet that you have made some great memories with it and you bought it when it was just an inexpensive used car. I really like the direction that you are headed with it too. Do you have any more vintage pictures over the years of ownership or good stories to share?

  5. It sat for many years in the corner of the garage while I did the pre-49 thing. The motor going in it was in my Model A but putting Model A back to single 4 barrel.

    @carcruse,
    At least you bought and kept it. They have gotten pretty expensive over the years. Hopefully it won’t be long until you have it on the road again. Keep us posted on your progress.

    Unless my brain has completely faded, those are "Rocket" wheels on the blue '62, if that's the one you were referring to.... I never particularly cared for them, but that's just my humble opinion.....

    Most sincere Season's Greetings to all the followers of this thread!!!
    Don't know how I would have gotten this far through the pandemic without a daily dose of both "Corvette Hot Rods" and "NHRA Junior Stock!" Between these two threads with their reminders of the great cars and fine people of the past sixty or seventy years, it continues to be possible keep on keeping on!!

    And a Merry Christmas to you sir....
    I saved this picture from another thread.... 251AB1AB-E01E-4397-9E0F-442A2D864E06.jpeg.jpg
    I figured it would belong here also....

  21. Hey guys, this is plum crazy, but my boss was talking about his grandpa campaigning a 59 Corvette gasser through the 60's, his grandpa was named James Mosbey, up around Mansfield Ohio. Said he crashed the 59, and built a 67 Corvette to replace it. Anybody here know of him? Or even better, have a picture?

    I really like that one. I believe I saw it featured in a magazine a long time ago.

    I've read about people doubling up on OEM sway bars back in the day before you could get larger aftermarket ones, never knew that it was done from the factory.
