needing some help identifying this grille i ran across last night. i believe it to be of mopar descent but haven't had any luck finding out and i'm pretty sure the grille guard is gm just not sure of the year or car, any help appreciated thanks hot rust
i know right, for some reason it loaded 3 copies of each. tried to delete two of them no such luck.................................
I agree, '59 Imperial and '55 Chevy. Here's a pic of another '55 Chev guard with it's original box. And the insanely cool Imperial this grille would have come from. Those Chevy guards are fairly common and not crazy valuable but the Imperial grilles were a common swap onto custom cars and good ones are pretty sought-after.
i think we have a winner according to google that answer is correct !!!!!!!!!!!! thanks everyone for the help hot rust
https://www.motortrend.com/features/mopp-0312-1959-chrysler-imperial/ I guess Motor Trend got it wrong too.
They sure did get it wrong. Don't get me started about what passes for automotive journalism these days where writers don't even know basic automotive historical facts. Imperial was the Chrysler Corporations's luxury automobile brand from 1955 to 1975, and again from 1981 to 1983. The Imperial name had been used since 1926, as a Chrysler luxury model, the Chrysler Imperial. However, in 1955, the company spun off Imperial into its own make and division to better compete with its North American rivals, Lincoln and Cadillac. Imperial would see new or modified body styles introduced every two to three years, all with V8 engines and automatic transmissions, as well as technologies that would filter down to Chrysler Corporation's other models.
That's true, but it's like saying a Ford Lincoln. Imperial is the make, just like Lincoln is the make, even if Ford Motor Co makes Lincoln. Same thing happens a lot with Edsel and DeSoto, they get called a Ford Edsel and a Dodge Desoto (that one is especially odd). I guess technically it's not wrong, you could call any Chevy a General Motors Chevrolet, it just sounds strange.
