Ok got shifter arm /and park selector paw finally set. Instructions are right I should have done that when the case was empty or before I actually tore it down so I had a reference.
valve body and all seems well. Closer.

Removed governor. Manual valve body is in. Pick up extension etc. The Deep pan is as much to strengthen the case as fluid volume.
This one is for the Willys.
This was built without a trans brake but a manual valve. There are times we will run as high gear only. But that was the plan all along. Reason these cars are geared as deep as they are and are set up this way.
The second is for the prefect and will have some differences do to car gear /weight. Like everything we do it’s a combination that has been proven and works. Without eating parts.

Next trans started. This one will be 1:82 planetary. Short rod/stroke and super light set up. Should be great in Prefect.

Case and tail housing cleaned and all threads chased. Front pump checks out to be well within spec. Need to assemble shift arm and install low /reverse clutch pack.

Tear down of number 3 trans for Opel Kadet. Pump gears checked in spec. The clutches show from sitting up. Important parts are good. We have everything in-house. Piston for more clutches is already machined for high gear pack. Case /tail housing goes back to the washer and I’ll start sub assemblies. This one we will do the full valve body mods. All of them.

I don't know about that . The power glide is said to be the simplest of them all and it took me how long to learn this? Still gotta learn how to re-spline our axles also. Got the machine capabilities /Bridgeport etc- but the operator is the weak link.

Front pump assembled and specked. High gear clutch pack selected and inventoried. Getting set to fit 6 clutch disc and modified piston. This will be 1:76.

High gear clutch pack with the aftermarket hub and 6 disc. The deep clutch hub did well. Set up at .074-.079. Called for .060-.100. It’s within speck so I let it be. Tight space for all that goes in in there

Just as question where did you pick up your knowledge of what parts and procedures to use on a PG for drag racing?

The legendary Trio of Bill Johnston ( RIP), Eddie Garner, And Barry Johnson. Between the 3 Probably over a hundred years of experience. One of them or sometimes all of them had input on our decisions. And yes all of them are racers as well. Eddie is a trans specialist. Bill was a perfectionist. And Barry is an independent racer that has been in our circle for longer than I have been.
TSR has a good book that is for reference and they are great for race level parts and service. All are proven combos in feds/heavy and light cars. Let’s just hope I was a good student. Lol

Today pulled the high gear pack back down after clearance spec was done yesterday. Seals installed and lubed. Tested and set. All threads chased in the case. The moss that was growing on it literally checker etched the outside. Looks almost like a calico cat. Lol
Servo /park paw -lock /and shift arm /lever installed. All sub assemblies are done and ready for the rear clutch hub installation.
We have also created a chrome high gear clutch pack press and break down tool. One piece of chrome painted 3 inch c channel and a harbor freight arbor press. Call for price. Shipping extra. Just kidding. But it works very well.

Front pump in for good. Only took three times. The thrust clearances are at .045. Which is more to my liking. .059 is the high end of acceptable and I just can’t let that go. Had to pull it down and re shim twice but it’s good.
Also found my other shorter belts for the fuel pump drive. Knew I had some more just couldn’t remember where I put them. Hanging on the wall-right where I left them behind drill press. Go figure. Only I can hide things in plain sight.

Tail housing on and buttoned up. And the valve body work starts. We bought the previous two some years back/had them in inventory. Never dreamed we would get crazy enough to build three cars at one time Again. Guess I /we haven’t learned that one yet. Lol

Finished the mill work on the valve body and picked up a pair of training wheels that we might need. Figure the Prefect and the Opel have the potential.

Valve body for the Opel complete. Gotta make a call and double check one item but it’s finally ready. Also included the valve body layout before assembly.
When you think you have it clean do it 4 more times. Every time I looked and put it in the parts washer more junk came out. Like any cast iron machining. It hides well.

Pretty maids all in a row. All 3 finished. I actually have almost enough inventory to build a spare. Need the valve body plate and springs. And 4 reverse frictions and I have everything else.
I learned that the glide actually came with a deep as in like 3 1/2 deep steel pan from the factory in certain applications. I’d just like to see one.
The aluminum pans all make the cases stronger. So that’s why we will use them . I’d just like to see that factory deep pan. Lol

Life is a journey. Not a destination. Live all you can while you can. I realize that more now than ever. Anything you can pick up from what we are doing makes it good. Take any or all of it with the knowledge that it was all trial and error and a journey. Kinda doing things our way now. All we can as long as we can.

Torque converters in the Willy’s and Opel transmissions. 5500 and 4500 respectively. The Prefect converter is a 5000 that I have to send to Kenny at PTC and change back over to true glide spline.
Fitted the trans shield to the Willy’s trans. It says some grinding required. Try a sawzall /carbide cutter -air tools /file. And I still have to bolt the cooler I built up and check for final clearance. It is my fault we have to use this type in the Willy’s. Apparently I didn’t check when I first fitted the drive train and this is the only type of shield that will clear other than a blanket. They hold a lot of heat and I didn’t want that. The Opel and prefect will get the normal trans Shields

One day at a time. One step at a time. Time is your friend. It let me know that everyday counts. It also let me know it was time to realize control is really an illusion. Live all you can while you can. I wished I had earlier in life but overall I still have few regrets.

Transmission shield and cooler are finally in place. I am personally glad that the Willys is the only one with this shield. The prefect and kadet will have a normal one. What I get for not reading the tape measure.correctly.

Flywheel installed and torqued into place. ARP doesn’t intend for it to come off with a torque reading of 85 ft/lbs.
Got the intake water fittings in. All Teflon/ O rings etc. Set temp fitting up in the back right to reach the senders and to keep away from the throttle linkage.
Moved the big chain hoist /rolling frame to the shop. Gotta remove the front cap and get ready install. Closer ever so closer.

Moved the Willy’s to the smaller shop for drive train installation. Easier to heat and cool etc. took a good while to wipe off and get moved. I can pull anything with a lawn mower. Etc.

Round one goes to the Willy’s also. Appears the new glide dipstick is almost an inch different where it bends. This one ( has locking lever style cap/stick ) actually hits the fire wall. So out it comes again.
With the new trans shield it’s pretty hard to work. I don’t like leaks and I am not a fan of flexible/remote type dip sticks. Never saw one that didn’t leak. Guess I’ll be building the tube as well.
