Found this on a 471 I’m looking at, any idea how rare it is and what it’s worth? I’ve looked all over and haven’t seen one nor any posts on here referencing one. Thanks

  2. Ummm ,
Not quite sure how rare really .
I have only seen one other before yours,,,,,,it came on a 6/71 I bought many years ago.
It’s still pretty dirty,,,but here it is,,,,,I also included a pic of the back side,,,it has some stand off areas cast into it .

Isky’s drive came out in 1959 and AFAIK the rear cover was part of the kit until they stopped being sold.
The rear end plate holds the bearings and as time went on guys started to modify the bearing bosses, the OD would be machined and steel rings pressed on to strengthen them with round aluminum plates added to cover the bearings. Then aftermarket rear plates cams out that were stronger and racier looking so that kind of negated the rear cover.
If it was mine I’d use it just because you rarely see one, but if you don’t there was a wanted ad in the classifieds here recently looking for one.

Interesting info, thanks. I’ll be keeping it and running it. It’s odd because it’s the only isky part on the setup which is mostly cragar and a weiand intake. So I’m guessing it’s painted black or super dirty and not magnesium?

  5. Fordors ,
It’s funny you should mention that,,,,this is the bearing plate is attached to the blower that Isky piece came from,,,,it has been reinforced like you were saying .
The steel rings are really well done .

The Weiand part weighed about 430 grams more than a stock GMC cast plate .
It’s enough you can feel it when picked up .

They're the same. I think they were made of aluminum.

  11. Yeah,,it’s cast aluminum,,,,,the Isky part is actually fairly light .
I assume they were getting into the market when the supercharger movement was taking off big .

    And no,,,,,I don’t fool with dope !
I used my scale that I balance components for my engines with .

Thanks all. So seems like it’s kind of rare but nothing ‘holy grail’ esque
