    Hey
First time user so beware my dumb questions...
My 34 1/2 ton is getting some changes, I want to install 1940 hubs for my F1 backing plates on the 34 axle. Never had anything to do with kingpins before so before I start anything can someone who has done the conversion fill in the blanks?

    First setback.
F1 backing plates are 11" diameter, but don't fit the ' 34spindle. ' 40 hubs will fit the '34 spindles, but '40 drums are 12" diameter. Also the F1 drums don't fit the '40 hubs.
Rich b & others on the BARN can steer You in the correct direction for parts.

RICH B from Minnesota is here on the HAMB too. Look in the classifieds and he has rebuilt F-1 brake sets for sale for very reasonable prices. If he doesn't have a current ad, he could probably still put you a set together.

IMG_0872.JPG IMG_0875.JPG Why not just use the 34 spindles? It's easy.
I'm running 34 stock spindles with 52-55 hubs, drums and backing plates. You need to weld and redrill the backing plates and make a spacer ring and a spacer for the inner bearing.
I cut 1/2" off the spindle threads cause it was a bit long.
It's all parts from the same truck, no Chinese shit and brake parts are cheap. You can update them to self adjusting by adding the kit from a 61 f100.

Man that's another pretty interesting solution. So many choices and so little time.

On my Model A, I used 40 spindles, and the F1 hubs, B- plates & drums. I chamfered the inner bearing and had to do a little grinding on the steering arms, but it was minimum bs involved. plus the F1 are better brakes and easier to adjust.
