Stave's Garage & Service Station, also a Ford dealership in Silvana Washington on the Pioneer Highway. I have a cancelled Stave's check from the State Bank of Silvana pay to the order of Motor Rebuild Supply for $49.26 dated OCT. 1939 framed on my shop wall. The bank is a cool old brick building that still survives a few hundred feet north of the station, This place is about 5 miles from me. I would love to have that building in my backyard!

  4. This sad example is just down the road from the one above and was last used a few years back with a coffee cart where the pumps were. JW

There are a handful around here in east Tennessee. I'll have to get to snapping some pics. This one the guy purchased locally to him, had it dismantled, moved to his property and reassembled. He has done that with a few other buildings as well. There's a handful of videos on youtube if you search for Memory Lane in Rogersville TN.

I don't know the exact location of this one. The picture was emailed to me by a friend in California who knew I'd appreciate it. I assume it's in northern Cali somewhere, but that doesn't narrow it down much. I tried to find the email again to check the city, but to no avail.

    Hello,

When my wife and I were on the way home from Victoria, B.C. back in 2000, we drove down the coast and crossed the tall bridge at Astoria. It was astounding and a first time for us. Since we had come down the Washington coast and stopped in a city called Long Beach, we decided to go inland along the river back to Portland and end up in Vancouver, Washington, just across the river.

The long and winding Highway 30 was interesting as we had never been on that road ever, plus, it was like going upriver, except for driving a car. As we got near Portland, we turned off on 308 to go to the Portland Raceway on the direct access road over the I-5 bridge to Vancouver, WA.

We did not know it at the time, as the gas station was just a shop and we drove by easily. But the end result was a street called North Interstate or Pacific Highway West. It led directly to the I-5 bridge and Vancouver, WA.

Many years later when we came up to Portland again, we used the side roads to by pass a jam up on the I-5 in South Portland. The end result was the last North Interstate that allowed us to fly by 1000s of cars, stuck on the freeway leading over the big bridge.

We have liked old gas stations, and wished, looking at the recent photos, that the Signal Station/Pizza Place was around when we went by. We missed the pizza shop by a couple of years. We certainly would have stopped as we are pizza fanatics, too.

I bought this place when I was 25 , used it as a rental for several years while running a Amoco station. When cars started going front wheel I added a bay on and moved in it myself and started wholesaling cars. I did that for 25 years raising my boys there. The last photo is when we had it all spiffed up to sell. IMG_0089.JPG IMG_0090.JPG z 004.jpg

This old station was in use until just recently as a radiator repair shop, the last one I know of in the local area, Hoffman Radiator in downtown Orange CA, a block or so off the traffic circle on Chapman Ave. They were the real deal radiator shop, able to not just do repairs, but could build whatever you needed. But now they're gone. The owner retired and closed up the shop. But it obviously started out life as a gas station. Has a row of out buildings as well. I don't know what will happen with the property, the city of Orange is very proud of and protective of their history and the historical buildings in town. I'm sure they would prefer to keep it and repurpose it, so we'll see what happens.

Love to see these. Not many left in US, I think mainly due to tanks, either the tanks were removed, or if they invested in new tanks the station got an overhaul.
Also the 2 lane roads thru towns have mainly been converted to 4 lanes that go around the town.

Town I grew up in, none of the 6 corner stations from early 80's are operational, 3 leveled, now: bank, walgreens, larger corporate station. There's 3 old station buildings remaining with tanks removed: lawn service company, antique shop, local butcher (1/4 cow, pig and deer proceesing) sales shop.

None of the mechanics took over the old service station buildings, high traffic street and city harassment on appearance, easier to set up on the edge of town with fenced lots.

    And now Deep Thoughts with Bandit Billy;

Do you think anyone will ever restore an old Tesla charging station and turn it into a pizza restaurant? o_O

  22. Nope... it'll be a specialty tea shop! Or maybe a humus stand.

I recognize the one from Twin Arrows Az. and the Magnolia in Shamrock Tx it's just a few miles north of Flattop Bobs in Wellington.
A hot rodder here in town bought this earlier this year and has been working on it. He's doing a great job

This one, as it currently looks, in Waverly Iowa. The owner has turned it into a museum. All car guys I'm sure have at least 1 photo, using it as a backdrop 267645212_4396668670461401_4414651601012472938_n.jpg
