I've been on the HAMB for 16yrs and now that I'm 40 all my mentors and teachers are dying off. I feel lucky to have met and learned so much but there's not a lot of kids behind me to pickup the hobby.

I feel for you! Had 1 back surgery 5 years ago, 3 years ago doc said risk outweighed the benefits. But there's good news! When I dropped a buggy spring and its big ugly mount on my left foot last week I didn't feel it! Nor when they were cleaning me up at the hospital. So you just have to look for the bright side sometimes!

I was watching a Ralph Emory special on TNN with special guest Johnny Cash. A damm good show. I even tapped it. He asked Johnny about his open heart surgery. Johnny said you really wanna hear about it. He said really good friends wanna hear about your health problems for about 5 minutes. Your friends wanna hear about them for about a minute. And people you see on the street wanna hear about them for about 5 seconds.

Every time I see the commercial for that power recliner that actually helps assist you to get out of it, it looks like a better and better idea each time! o_O

  12. Most of the aspects of getting older don't bother me... it's just part of life's Bell curve. What really pisses me off is my poor night vision! I'm at the point that if it's raining (and I live in the Pacific NorthWET), I won't drive! I reached this decision just the other night. It really sucks, but I know I can be a hazard to others, especially to my wife if she's with me. My Ophthalmologist says I'll need cataract surgery within a couple of years and I'm actually looking forward to it.
At least my mind is styill sharp asa tuc...tak...tact.... aww fuck it, I'm going to bed!

Get the cataract surgery. Got mine 2 years ago. Best thing I ever did. Cars and ladies look so much better.

Get the cataract surgery. I had the same problem about 3 years ago and it is amazing being able to see again.

  16. So it's kind of like closing time at the bar every day, huh?

  17. I'll be discussing it at my next appointment, which is coming up in a few months. Thanks for the input, glad yours worked so well.

They say the legs go first. I'm 34 and notice the amount of scooters at the big shows. Back to the 50's was the worst... Between cars cruising and scooters moseying around it was a mess. More scooters than ever. I'm happy to still see you guys at the shows, don't get me wrong!

Yeah, when several of my Senile and Surly Car Club buddies and I get together for coffee, it goes something like "It's windy today." . . . "No, it's Thursday." . . . "Me too, let's have a beer."

  21. We all need to walk each day if at all possible, but the most important thing is to walk right on past those Golden Arches!

  22. I still keep an old bike that is my preferred transportation. Even when I have a running hot rod. I can roll 3 hours on the bike or in the car. I feel better upon arrival with the bike, less pain. One day I will find a car with good seats. LOL

I am still wrenching my own vehicles. I move pretty slow and sometimes I avoid it all together. I still get enjoyment out of building things and while I am a realist and know that building cars is not going to keep me young it does give me some enjoyment. Got to get that where you can. ;)

  23. My back and neck injuries are what is slowing me down. I should have jumped on a bunch of projects in the fall, but I was in a PT program which was more painful than the help I got from it. I'm discussing another round of injections with pain management.

I just renewed my medical marijuana card... do not recommend driving while on that stuff.... like the old days. I was off the day I first got my tinctures. In the parking lot, took a 1/2 dropper of the mild stuff and a couple of drops of the wild stuff. I had to run errands and take my son to pick up his car at a friend's shop... man was I stewed. Nobody caught on somehow or they were being polite.

Scooters, just went to Daytona Turkey Run 2021 .. Day 1, after covering swap meet, car corral..6hrs, leaving going thru tunnel... scooter with weak batteries stops in front of me at bottom, one person width to the barrier, his petite wife trying to push, my long arms..pushed a much larger guy, not heavy set... 245ish like 6'4" big man, up that tunnel with cars going buy, thanks to the other guy jumped over rail pushed with one arm as crowded chanted push push push... they thanked us, I said no problem... good to know my heart and lungs work great.. food for thought...one lane access probably need to revisit that. Could have been dangerous with normal year traffic, pre covid years.

There's one thing about getting old........It doesn't last very long. I try and never change my routine. I get out of bed and I go to bed. Lippy

  28. One thing I have learned about is pain... it means that you are still alive. I came out of my 2016 induced coma after heart surgery, that was how I knew I made it.

I do Hershey every year which is almost an ordeal vs an event. Hey, I said almost so stop with the faceso_O Anyways, scooters, bikes, golf carts, all part and parcel of the annual pilgrimage. The 2 negatives I have are that use is really a limiting factor. You can't see a lot vs walking so it's best to use such a thing to visit a "region" and park it while you walk about. The 2nd is how a number of users think that us lowly walking folk are in their way. The dirty looks and snide comments, hey I didn't put you in the fuckin thing so chill. Most are ok but damn if you have to be entitled to right of way all the time you're in the wrong place. Mostly I check it off as being a rude fuck is nothing new. Mankind has had assholes since day 1. When I need one I'm putting my Bermuda bell on it...;)
