Some of the best old cars in snow are posted on the Barn (IMO) by Old Henry. The Professor drove is old Ford everywhere. A little cold or snow never stopped him.

I drive this 31 coupe all winter. Its got a manifold heater, and an electric W/S wiper, not too drafty, so it takes me out for a joy ride if its mild, say, 20 above zero, and not too windy. Fresh snow is fun...to a point! Last night I wanted to go, but about 8" of new snow on the ground, I decided to pass. 14" total this morning, winter is here now...thats not going away until April. I do about a 25 mile round on gravel roads, no salt. Tonight, roads plowed, 25 above, no wind, gotta go. I drive past this place often, they really go all out for the holidays. Farm place, every building, every tree, every fence line, all lit up. About an 1/8 of a mile of lights, I see now its a really bad photo I took, digital camera, flash screwed it up. You should see the Halloween display they do. Anyway, it gets me all warm and fuzzy with holiday spirit, so I have to sing, join with me boy's and girl's,------Dashing thru the snow, in a 40 horse model A, down the road we go, laughing all the way ! The old ford rattles and bangs, making spirits bright, oh what fun it is to drive a model A ford tonight, (chorus) Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to drive a 40 horse model A..... Coming home from a "Toys for Tots" run in NJ a few years back. Started snowing while at the show, and it was a 30 minute ride home. 100_0685.JPG

    upload_2021-12-13_4-53-18.png 1956 OKC , near 34th street.
    Hello,

My wife was born in the OKC, and her family stayed for many years. Then her dad got a job in So Cal and they all moved to various places, Pacoima, Manhattan Beach, and Santa Monica. This was from 1950 to 56. Each time, they stayed until the job was finished and then they headed back to OKC. From 1956 on, they moved back and forth from OKC to Santa Ana, back to OKC and back to Buena Park, permanently.

Needless to say, her 5th grade class was in OKC. But in one of the most important elementary school classes, 6th grade, they moved 4 times in 4 different elementary schools. So Cal, to OKC and back to So Cal, permanently a couple of blocks from Knotts Berry Farm. Her dad’s job was a few miles away.

    Jnaki

But, when these stories come out in the family discussions, it is always brought out that those little kids actually “walked in the snow” to the local OKC elementary school and back. In the So Cal, coastal areas, snow was only had one time in 1949. I was too young to walk to school back then. So, those old stories of grandparents having to walk to school in the snow were actually true. HA!

The lives of OKC families versus coastal So Cal cities is like night and day. We have to drive two hours away to get to see snow with some depth to be able to "walk in the snow..."

But, perhaps this latest storm heading our way from Alaska is supposed to be a very cold front, plus moisture, so it could be a white sprinkle or two on the coast. As we all know, weather patterns are somewhat predictable, but the frontal system has by passed us plenty of times in the past.

So, watch out Midwest folks... the storm usually gets stronger as it heads East. It is now, officially jacket weather outside from morning to night here in So Cal. YRMV

  14. My 37 Ford with a 303 Olds. mill used it to go to work year round . I had 820x15 snow tires on it , would pull out in third gear to keep tires from spinning in snow . This is my son Mike on sled he's 61 now ! IMG_2221.JPG

  15. Hej Per, nice pictures! Over here there is no chance, before the first snowflakes start their way down from heaven the local services spray tons of salty shit on all roads, so i will not take out my Poncho for a ride. But you know theres a light in my nearer future.... ;) jist two months more......
    Cheers, Carsten

Yeah, but back then, they were just cars, not toys/hot rods.

Where I live driving a rod, custom, or even ot sports car in the snow isn't a badge of honor. It's a badge of stupidity, lol. Like putting a hitch on a vette, etc etc....

Badge of stupidity? I drive the model A all winter because I cant imagine going 5 months without it ! I can, due to location, stay out of the salt, and driving in a snow storm is fun! And, I have a trailer light wire on my 34 coupe, hitch will be installed this winter, to tow my little camper.

upload_2021-12-16_5-3-38.png It finally arrived this week.

    Hello,

After an unusual winter so far, the Westcoast portion of So Cal was still dry and lacking any kind of snow on the local mountains. Up North about 5 hours drive, there was some snow in the deep ski regions, and also in Northern California. But, we So Cal coastal folks just look at the mountains on our neighborhood drives, but haven't seen snow until two days ago.

As we went to get some cash from the bank, the view of actual snow on the huge mountain range behind Los Angeles and the big peak at Mt. Baldy was impressive. Finally, some snow for the warm weather locals. We all did take a beating with the 25mph winds and driving rain for two days. But, the end result was a nice as possible.

    Jnaki

Now, those HAMB folks that live near the local mountain range can go play in the snow and take some cool photos.

Over the past 60 years, we have taken this road (I-5) many times and even during the sunny openings between storms to get into the California inland valleys, on the way North to the SF Bay Area.
upload_2021-12-16_5-30-30.png San Francisco on better weather days 1967-68

We even drove in the snow going up to see my wife's parents, who at the time, were living in the higher elevations of the mountains near Lake Isabella. There was definitely snow there after any big time rain storm front blowing by all of the Westcoast. The El Camino is not the best driver in any harsh weather, especially in the snow. Although, when the rear bed gets filled with snow, then there is enough weight to handle a little better.

Since this spot on the I-5 is the highest opening in between the mountain range, the CHP usually closes it frequently as the downhill/uphill drive gets tricky at any speed. YRMV
