Trying to find out what oil pan I have. 350 Chevy engine. The dip stick has 8qt mark on it. The dip stick does look new, so it not original. The engine is a crate motor. Is there a way to measure the oil pan for quart capacity? The oil drain is on the drivers side, located right on the corner of the deep hump. image.jpg

Put 5 qts in run it a couple seconds and pull the stick and file a mark on it where it shows full.

My thinking is if the oil pan is made for larger oil containment then 5 qts. would not be enough. I’m going to drain the pan, measure the old oil, to see how many qts. are in it. Then put a mark on the stick.

5 quarts plus filter is standard for a stock pan, which is what that looks like.

A 8 qt. pan would really wide or really deep.

I drained the oil today, the pan had 5qts. In it. I put a mark on the dip stick. Good to go.

Curious, how close is the mark you made to the "8 QT" mark?
