I came across this black and white photo and thought it was pretty funny.......colorized and painted.

I got an interesting call this week from the Tioga County (NY) Historical Society asking if I was the "Jack Murphy" that painted the 3-1/2' X 10 foot long airbrush mural that hung in the dining room the Lounsberry (NY) Truck Stop for nearly 40 years. They had just acquired it (the dining room closed) and are planning to display it in their museum because of the local importance of the Lounsberry Truck Stop, and 10s of thousands of travelers over the years had seen the artwork...QUITE AN HONOR!!! But they didn't know the painting's, or the artist's (me) history.

I told them (in a nut shell)...in the early '80s, I was dating one of the waitresses at the the Lounsberry Truck Stop and was always hanging around, which led to meeting and knowing the owner quite well. When he heard that I was an illustrator for Street Rodder Magazine, he asked if I could do something with that bare wall in his dining room...the rest is history. I soon learned that doing a 10 foot long painting was a lot different from doing a regular size drawing...and some of the perspective came out just a little wonky.

...Oh yeah, and that waitress I was dating...we've been married for 38 years now PD_0007.jpg

Happy Friday! This is a '40 Ford I drew this summer in Micron pens and Sharpie on toned gray paper.

    Hello,

When I was invited to cruise around Bixby Knolls in a friend’s white 54 Corvette, it was a blast. The styling was very similar between 54-55 Corvettes and the same 6 cylinder motor powered those low slung sports cars. It was not the fastest thing on wheels, but it had the attitude of an American Sports Car and with the open top, what was not to like as far as complimentary waves and adorations were concerned?

The roots were there, it just needed some V8 power and a different transmission. The sound of that 1954 Corvette was like any 6 cylinder Chevy Sedan with custom mufflers. A mild droning sound upon acceleration.

When researching old Corvettes, I came across this photo of a young woman driving her 55 Corvette at Lion’s Dragstrip. Madeline Stephan 1955 Corvette

It was not an April fool’s joke. She won the trophy for the C/SP class and did so with style. Who would not notice that a girl/woman driving with a scarf, sunglasses and an open top along the streets of So Cal? Well, here it is in real life at the drags, a hot reaction time and winning the elimination races, she was/is the winner on this day.

Perhaps with a little more v8 power the following year model would have made the jump in class and have similar results. IOHO

Just to start off the month of December with a RED color hot rod sports car, it still looks good with either color. Pop the hubcaps and go racing… that was/is what it was all about before the sponsorships and factory intrusions.

Awesome stuff bro, love Lady Luck being stared at by our old pal, Rat Fink. The sugar skull on that gorgeous Gibson guitar is way cool.
