Congratulations. Now you'll be going, "How did I ever have time for a full time job!"

Best bit for me when I retired was not having to get up to an alarm clock. You'll wake early anyway but there's no rush to get going. Enjoy.

Good for you!!! I retired Oct. 12 this year, but I just got my first pension check yesterday, that makes it offical! Been working on trucks and heavy equipment for a living since 1977. Before that, helping my uncle with his trucks since I was 13 or 14. Working on fire equipment for the last 35 years for Baltimore County Md. I turned 63 Oct. 4th, that and my aching joints told me it was time to go. Gene.

  5. As others have said, you will only be truly retired when you can say - "It's Tuesday today, isn't it?", and it's actually Friday. It only took me about 3 months to get to that stage. I am coming up to one year in retirement in a couple of days. One secret is - don't tell anyone except your family and best friend that you have retired. You will have a lot more time to yourself, and get more done! I thought I would be well into my "retirement projects" (47 Chevy, BSA motorcycle, early Holden sedan), but have managed about 2 hours on one of them. Although now I have new gates, the landscaping and automatic irrigation in the backyard is finished, and am finishing off air-con for the workshop, along with an electric hoist, new garage door, hell, even the chickens got a new coop!
Eat well, stay healthy, and you too may eventually find time for your projects! (and if you feel like an afternoon nap, just call it "Thinking time"!)

  8. I recommend it. Are you having a party? I had a pig roast for 200 and only invited people that I liked. Live music, hay ride and a whiskey bar, we had a great time.

  9. The 18th of December will be 7 years for me, I miss employment about 0%. Enjoy the longer days in the shop and remember from here on out everyday is Saturday !!!

  11. My old employer had a retirement party at my favorite watering hole with an open bar, their idea, not mine. Started at 4:00p.m. ended at 6:30p.m. only because the bar bill was $2300.00 after 2 1/2 hours. I invited 75 of my closest car friends and evidently they were just as happy and thirsty about me retiring as I was.

I retired a year ago and tell people the worst part of being retired is no Saturdays, they tell me every day is Saturday, I tell them it’s not same. Ha ha. Hope you are ready to be super busy, because time flys.

Congratulations! Make a list and then ignore it if you like. Do the things you always wanted to do (as long as it's legal) and try to stay busy, but not like 8 to 5 busy. Enjoy the days ahead, hopefully they will be Many!

Been waking up a 5:30 every morning since a young age. Had to do the farm chores before getting on the bus to go to school. Old habit that I've never been able to break.

I retired in '14 and had a terrible time adjusting. It was the worst fifteen minutes of my life.
Now I have other pressing problems...
Do I get Torq Thrust wheels or Chrome?
Do I have any clean socks?
I have three more catalogs to go through.
I think I can get the brakes done before cruise night.

Congrats and welcome to the land of the Really Living. :D
