Hot Rods Getting the lines right....

  1. Around here we just leave the front off but keep it in the car. I have done it on couple cars and my old boss has been doing it for 20 years. Never been asked about it even.

A0D8A2D2-503C-44B4-8AF9-69209D5557F2.jpeg Same with me haven’t had one on the front of my tub never been stopped for it. But I have been stopped for having a Louvers in my rear plate and told to change it once because it made it hard to read.

I agree about the front license plate. I needed to have it on there to pass inspection. It’s off for most of the year.

Hi Frank, yes, I love that picture. And I would love to see some recent pictures of your roadster. HFH.

Stunning...so many unique grill shells out there for the person wanting to ditch the belly button grill

9CDAC6BB-9DF3-4263-A39E-E7408B02F01A.jpeg ] Before it gets too cold in my unheated shop I want to remove the fabric on my top and change the shape of the opening over the doors.

New side profile looks good to me. Is the rear window placement good for you looking out the rear view mirror?

I always thought this was a bad idea - but this example looks pretty good!

WOW! that looks GREAT, wonder if that grille and cowl sweep actually are the same and we never knew it because this was the first time it was done?

@The37Kid - There have to be other examples out there. ...but maybe I'm only recalling a '30/'31? You're right about that '28/'29 cowl sweep. Feels like blasphemy, but I love this example.

Just added the photo to my reply, noticed that the car has a custom radiator shell between the hood and '32 grill, just gets better the more you look at it.

I think you mean '33 grille - but I know what you meant. I saw that too because I was wondering how they grafted this on since the '33 essentially resolves right into the hood area. Looks like they grafted it to a shroud/shell then mated that to the car. We need more pictures of this car!

@hfh - sorry we're hijacking your thread. We're all like kids around here when we see something new (or apparently really old). A lot of respect for what you've built. I especially like how you've covered the frame horns - looks great and appreciate you sharing with us.

Thanks Bob and raaf. I too love that picture. Someone had a great vision and put it all together in a nice way. In my imagination I picture someone wanting a flathead it their roadster and instead of getting two more outlets on the old radiator, elected to use the ‘33 radiator, grille, and hood. This conversion might have been done more out of necessity than anything else. It was probably done in someone’s back yard. There may not have been any other pictures taken of this car but I do hope we discover some someday. HFH.

How about a version where the side window height is unchanged but the corners are rounded like you did in your cardboard mock-up?

The other problem is that my old top doesn’t fit the shape of my new windshield. Remaking the front of the top means remaking the fabric since I will need more on the front and the sides. 207293F3-5CF7-43DF-AEA5-4E941610EBCA.jpeg

I have been admiring this photo for years and realized that maybe the nice curved flap that makes closure between the top and the windshield would be a solution to my problem. 88C754BC-7399-4A4E-AA78-5B77BAC5A998.jpeg

Yesterday I removed some of the fabric to expose the wood parts that need changing. 4D0CAFA7-A6CF-4CC0-8E65-7DCB6490881C.jpeg
