3737739 is on the web on the back of the block and on the VIN pad is F1229

Intake Number is 3783244 which I think is used on 283&327 passenger car & Corvette

and the carb 7023006 its a ROCHESTER 4 bbl I think its a 327 Passenger Car with MAN/ Trans

And if anybody can point me right on this that would rock...I cannot finding anything prior to 68 for the motor.. I just need to get some info on this asap.. Or a link so I can COLUMBO this bitch out.... Thanks Ryan

3737739 is a 283 58-64 2 bolt main date Dec 29 in Flint. Would need suffix behind F1229 (like CB or something) to get vehicle specific. Mortec decode
7023006 Carb is a 63 Chevrolet Automatic trans. Seventh Carb number is supposed to be the trans. Odd manual and even auto.

A guy has to remember that quite often guy went to the wrecking yard and picked up a four barrel intake and carb and stuck it on their 283 back then. I must have helped swap a half dozen of them and a number of power pack or bigger heads back then on friends cars that originally came with a two barrel.

Looks like you have the basics for a nifty little hot rod engine there. I wouldn't get too caught up in worrying what it came out of as long as it is a solid block that can be rebuilt and has a fairly desirable set of heads on it. Half the Chevys around back then had "Corvette" motors in them but you could walk into most any Chevrolet dealer's parts counter in the early 60's and buy a pair of finned Corvette valve covers for 30 something bucks. The local dealer probably sold three Corvettes a year in good years and 50 sets of Corvette valve covers and 200 Duntov cams a year.

Yhea I have the original 2 barrel intake, it needs rebuilt I have been sitting on it for a while, I am thinking of selling it to move my 31 closer to being a driver.. I got the intake and carb from a buddies father in-law that had it sitting in his cellar for years.. he has a nice pontiac tri-power set-up I have been trying to get from him, but no go on it.... I'm just not sure what it is even worth to a restorer...

    D -suffix
1958-60 283 170-185 hp just says car or truck. Probably Impala or pickup. Possibly a Corvette as suggested by bfj08816, pretty low hp rating but Corvette site says it could be. Like Mr.48 say looks like a 4 barrel intake was put on it.

    283 Powerglide 4bbl.

if you want to know the year, look for the casting date code on the back....not far from the casting number, it will be a letter followed by a few numbers. The last number is the last digit of the year. So H 23 8 would be August 23, 1958, for an example.
