What's stuck, the lug nuts or are the wheels themselves rusted to the drums?

 

Wheels stuck to the drums, got all the lug nuts off finally

 

Put the lug nuts back on to where they're just barely not touching the wheels and drag the car around your yard for a bit. They'll work loose. Unless the brakes are also locked up and the wheels don't turn...

I just sold my ‘38 Ford grill , my ‘34 Chevy Master grill and my ‘29 Pontiac grille earlier this year. All I have left is a original ‘29 Model A .

 

You know you could make up a grill from scratch with the basic outline of a Dodge era correct grill and customize it to set yours apart.

Yeah the ‘34 Chevy Master grill has the ‘33/‘34 Ford look without the Ford price. I do have a ‘34 International fire truck hood that will work just perfect for you Actually, I have your whole ‘34 planned out for you with my parts lol

 

The one pictured is a fiberglass 34 Plymouth. I`m sure others are made also.

I may still be able to fix mine! If not though im definitely not hung up on one look or another i do think id probably use a steel grill from another rig before id go fiberglass. Idk why... i want it to be mid 50s rod, glass seems more late 50s early 60s you'd probably never be able to tell but it'd bug me i feel like for some reason

 

I agree . Fiberglass , to me just doesn’t have the feel and soul of a our pre ‘60’s hot rods . I like real vintage parts because they have untold stories even if I don’t know them

I have yet another quandary id like some input on.... i have the 303, flywheel, clutch etc, i have an olds to flathead adapter plate and a 37 ford 3 speed floor shift trans...one option is get a ford 3 speed to driveline adapter and run that however i feel like the weak link is the 37 flatty 3 speed. So...advice? Ditch the 3 speed and go another route? Bendtsens bell? Has to be mid 50s period correct...also to run the ford 3 speed i think i have to buy a model A truck clutch i think? I have an olds clutch at the moment....the pitfalls of running an olds with a manual...

 

You will tear that 37 tranny apart the first time you launch that 33. Drive like an old lady and it will most likely last quite a while. You might consider a Lasalle, Packard or a Buick that has a Olds gear conversion. All those choices are $$$ but a safer bet. Here is a Buick on my 324.

 

Another way maybe an Olds using a GM transmission . If you want to stick to the fifties there should be a few 3 speed transmissions out of cars or trucks . Or move your sights to include the 1960’s offerings in 3 and 4 speed transmissions . Rock a Muncie

 

I dont mind saving and spending to make it right, drive train needs to be right... what year Buick is yours out of? Was it already set up for floor shift?

 

Yeah that may be the route i end up going, really depends on what i can find. Theres a floor shift lasalle locally but its like 1600 bucks! Thats almost double what i have into the car...im down to spend money but i cant spend that much! I REALLY want it to stay mid 50s but in the end id rather have it on the road than not so it may be out of my hands

 

Oliver, when I began my build 10 years ago I was all about staying with a 50's style. Picked up a 37 Lasalle and all the parts to make it work. Over the next few years during the rebuild of the Lasalle it became clear that parts were getting really scarce and expensive. Midstream I switched over to the Buick Century 6 bolt top cover tranny, converted it to use a 57 Olds gear gut and tail stock, changed out the bell housing to a 51+ piece which are readily available and never looked back. @Paul and @F&J both use the same set up and have been happy with it's performance. The 6 bolt century box is getting hard to find but they are out there. Donor Olds trannies are easier to find.
Or as mentioned above there is the GM conversion using a Muncie etc. Shifter location will most likely not be in the same forward spot as a vintage tranny. Another thing to think about.

 

Oliver, here are some body repair panels. SRPM streeetrods. They list a lot of early mopar parts. I have not dealt with this company......just passing it along.

Yeah ive been doing used tranny searches and thinking long and hard about this...if i do go gm, i saw a contraption a fella made to move the shifter forward. Thats nkt my fiest choice though. I think i will be hitting swap meets, get a list of trans together to hunt for and search as i do metal work
