Does anyone know of an original (50's or before) tail light that has the same shape of the Shoebox Ford tail light but that's 75% - 50% smaller? Trying to figure out what I'd like to do for the rear end of my Shoebox - had an idea of doubling the windsplit but at a smaller scale (bad mockup attached for reference).
That's a good thought! Definitely the right shape. Just checked online a bit and did some scale comparisons...looks like they might be close to 6" or so. Might be too big for this particular application. Thanks for the suggestion!
You might look at '39 Ford teardrops. Not a symmetrical shape, but that could work to your advantage...
Try motorcycle taillights. Something like this, although these may be too "tall" at the center for what you want. https://www.lowbrowcustoms.com/coll...cycle-standard-mini-cat-eye-tail-light-chrome
75-50% smaller your gonna be looking at marker lights. maybe a newer box truck might have a tiny oval marker light?
You might be on to something (another bad mockup attached). Now that's an excellent idea. Would just need to find something that "matches" the lens style/color of my Shoebox.
Your first shot was bitchin'. The second, not so much. Hang in there. Don't settle. I don't know, but . . . maybe the lower one could be clear -- a back-up light and flat but the same shape, but smaller, than the upper one.
I think you're right - definitely need to be the same shape. I'd probably french them, but here's a mockup of them the same shape with the lower lenses about 65% the size of the upper. Did a clear version too - which I like too.
