Hot rod truck? I don't know what evil lurks under the hood.

upload_2021-11-14_4-59-19.png from a film of So Cal hot rods and customs…

    Hello,

When I saw this film taken in the late 50s in So Cal, it made me wonder if that Lime Green color of the chopped Ford Truck was the inspiration for my brother’s Pale Yellow 51 Oldsmobile two door sedan being painted a Lime Green before he sold it in the fall of 1957.

When my brother and I used to see the chopped Tahitian or Candy Apple Red Ford F100 truck sitting outside of a storefront near our house, we wondered about the truck, the build and custom tricks. It was probably explained to us, since our family frequented the store. But, over the years, it resides in memories only and no photos to see.

This truck had the unusual chopped look with the front window top ledge being slightly taller than the back window. It was not the level 4 inch chop of other designs, but a different look altogether. But, it was the overall similarities that drove me to make some introspection about the Candy Apple/Tahitian Red truck build from our neighborhood. Perhaps this was the forefront of the Candy Apple Red or Tahitian Red F100 pickup truck from the earlier 50s in So Cal. Appletons were a must, but the side bed pipes always gave me some doubt.

When my brother and I saw the Candy Apple Red or Tahitian Red Ford F100 truck, it had the final finish and presentation. I put out a contact with the family several years ago and the owner’s son had no idea where the truck is and a couple of years ago, the owner passed away. So, the subject is no longer a pursuit for me, other than the memories of the cool custom truck. I had a chance ride in it with the mechanic and a good overall feeling of our Westside of Long Beach, with its custom cars and hot rod drag racing cars/trucks.

Gear from cast iron to steel gear to be compatible with billet steel roller cam . sofar , so good . IMG_0476.JPG 1987Fiveoh.jpg 5.0 Nov21.jpg 020.JPG
