I finished the DeSoto. The Diamond T is finished. I sold the custom '63 Riviera project 47A9EE42-7CD8-4100-8239-D3BFBEE28C8D.jpeg CB285AF5-78E0-4D33-8B1B-B62652B482BA.jpeg 28468709_10216332675932154_3946276551140649998_n-2.jpg F3D47DD5-1236-4547-89F6-CD5A36A39F34.jpeg 63FC9415-84CA-4E09-A770-43CFB5EE9C01_1_105_c.jpeg when I got the DeSoto, knowing I wasn't interested enough in it any longer. I primed the frame for Hemi powered '29 (and shared that in the build thread yesterday). The '34 was sold after the Pontiac wagon was totaled because I got a severe case of the heebie jeebies after some asshole drove through the Pontiac. I haven't worked on the '59 T'Bird custom for a couple years, but it's not going anywhere. There. I'm up to date...;)

I don't get too worked up about a lack of updates. They're an unexpected treat.

Side thought. What motivates you to post builds? I hope to offer tips to aspiring do-it-yourself (tightwad poor boy) builders like myself.

  3. I have two build threads, the first is for my RPU but i made the mistake of doing it on the ''Hot Rod Model T'' social group that virtually dried up with the last HAMB upgrade and i just stopped posting on it. That will all be lost on the next upgrade. The second is my Belly Tank build, i get a lot of views but only a small amount of comments ( thanks to those that do), this can get a bit lonely and put you off but at the end of the day it's my record of things. But what you lack in numbers of comments are compensated with the quality of them.
Most of them have something to add or show others solutions on similar problems.
And i promise to try harder to do some semi intelligent comments more often and not just hit the like button.
After all i am really impressed by your build.

I was a naysayer until I saw it. You did a heck of a nice job.

  8. Hey Swade ,
I’m pretty sure your thread got cut because of some items in the pics .
I posted to your thread this morning that the billet alt. bracket ,,the tubular a arms ,,and the rack steering would probably get cut later .
As it turned out,,,,I guess it happened after all,,,sorry .
Some items have to be edited to be on topic here,,,,just the way it is .

I for one glean quite a bit of very useful and informative tips and guidance
from other members build threads. They are to numerus to mention.
However guys like The 39 Guy, Marty Strode, Krylon, Jim Sibly, Old
Scrounger, Flamed A-Bone and a myriad of others have been a tremendous
help to me regarding my 40 Ford project. Both through their illustrative
work methods and willingness to share information and thoughts on a personal
    basis. Thanks Guys a lot.

Everybody has a different reason for letting a thread die. Sometimes, it’s as simple as “nobody seems interested, why bother”. Other times the age old problem spousal disdain comes into play. Often lack of money, bad health and life gets in the way. It’s not always a simple answer. Possibly an embarrassment.

If you are wondering about a certain thread, why not start a conversation with the original poster? You might make a new friend.

I don't receive a lot of comments but since the number of people looking keeps going up, maybe it helps someone. Something to do in any case.

Yup. I wish there were a way for a poster to see who was looking at the post. If I get 100,000 views is that 100,000 different HAMBers or one single HAMB S.O.B. reading the post 100,000 times?

    • It's not just HAMB members looking, it can be anyone. I find sometimes when i make a comment, usually positive that is where the thread stops....very strange.o_O:rolleyes: JW

Jim, Why not start a build thread on each. Those are all fine build projects and you could do month-over-month or year-over-year updates and give us all a thrill.

I dont even know how to find the build threads, let alone how to make a build thread. Im pretty good at banging on metal, but im kinda stipid when it comes to banging on my computer.

Just so we don't think I passed on I did my brake covers last week for my Vicky project. They l PXL_20220331_204941985.jpg ook way better in person than in the pics. I painted the whole mess satin black to make them just "go away".

Just seen this, better late than never. There is a build thread index (blowing my own trumpet here for the idea, not involved in the application of it however). Its on the main page as the third sticky down. Its maintained by @Paul, the tech editor. Requires a pm to him to to include a link to include a build thread. If browsing through you can get lost for hours!

Yes, I certainly think my posts may help younger, less experienced folks with an interest in increasing their gearhead knowledge and learning some techniques and methods they may not have considered. I think I owe that to aspiring gearheads.
But additionally it helps ME stay focused, and motivates me to do something each day that I can share with the HAMB community. It becomes a mutually beneficial act.
Me too. most of the comments on my builds are by me and a small number of guys who must be genuinely invested in my build thread(s).
That's OK. On some level I think that may be due to my being able to explain my actions and thought processes in detail. Bueno
    Me too

My build threads are payback for the ones I read when I first joined the HAMB. Sad part about them is that they document the years it takes to get any visible progress. Time, money and motivation are rarely in the same spot together.
