Technical Cast iron Mercury intake

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by flatheadfever, Nov 12, 2021.

  1. I have a cast iron mercury 4 bolt intake that I was planning on selling.
What is a fair price to ask?
    It is in good shape.
    Thanks

What engine family? MEL, Y-Block, Lincoln Y, FE, 385 Lima, Flathead, 335 Cleveland, Windsor, Big Six, Falcon Six, etc... Lots of different engines wore Mercury badges.

I would guess fair price is somewhere between it's weight in scrap iron and a couple hundred bucks. Or just a couple hundred bucks if it is an FE intake since that is what it is worth in scrap iron.....

I gave $50 for a flathead intake to be able to use a 2GC carburetor. Condition will dictate price.

  10. Best of my knowledge Ford never used the 4 bolt base Carb on a Flathead, only Merc 50 and 51. That said I have 2 just like it I haven't been able to give away for 40 years. Good luck selling it.

I'd have to agree with the idea that if someone handed you 50.00 for one grab the money and run before they change their mind.
To add to that I have a pair of nice heads that match that intake and if someone were to hand me 25.00 they would be welcome to them. I picked them up cheap at a local swap meet years ago because one of my heads on my 8 BA has the area around the front bolt hole for the thermostat housing broken out and I hadn't found my aluminum heads yet.

French flathead have the 4 bolts pattern too with zenith 32 ndix carburator.

  18. You may want to list it in a vintage oval track site, some clubs require the use of a single carb. The flathead car racing with us is a running the Merc intake and a heavily modified Rochester 2 BBL. upload_2021-11-13_5-40-41.png

I am running a 500 CFM Rochester 2BBl modified by JET performance on my 261 Chevy.

I believe a Mercury 4 bolt manifold is a desirable piece and $50 is probably a bargain in most areas. The 2G on one is a great update for a street driven car with minor mods to the engine. I will buy any one I see for $20 or less. I haven't bought one for at least 5 years.

And while an 8CM Mercury manifold is a decent upgrade to a flathead Ford, the 8CM heads are a downgrade.

Give it to somebody just getting started in the hot rod world. You'd be surprised how good it makes you feel. Someday......maybe..he will return the favor.
That's sorta how it works ya'know!!

  23. Dang, now I feel bad. I bet I don't look in the Wanted adds twice a year, and that's generally by mistake. You might even be close enough we could have done a meet-n-greet.

    That's OK, I wouldn't feel right if I didn't overpay for everything.
