Made these yesterday. Machined the ends and used 1/2 in black braided hose for the conduit. 20211108_115501.jpg 20211108_115512.jpg 20211108_115525.jpg

I've been reading the "paint prison" thread and I don't really feel like a prisoner because I can get up and walk away at any time.....which I already have for several different reasons . I guess my situation is more like self admission paint insane asylum . I have been trying to do as close to flawless as I can but my hands keep making flaws. I have sanded and primed , sanded and primed , sanded and primed and sanded to get to this point. I think things are getting straight , my eyes seem to think so but my hand finds a bump or dip every once in a while that need attention. I also wanted to try my new Iwata gun so I painted the dash and dash rail and put a few things together.....jumping the gun a bit I know , just got a wild hair and went with it. 20211111_123634.jpg 20211111_123651.jpg 20211111_123703.jpg 20211111_123717.jpg

I spent a couple of days straightening and polishing and painting the hubcaps. I have 3 - 39 standard caps and one 36 (I think) I need to find another 39 to complete the set but driving down the road nobody will know the difference.....I hope.
I like the way they look!

  14. Or you could find another '36 cap and run matching on each side....

I finally got the 12v generator that the mail had lost during the great flood. The original gennie was 24 volt and waterproof making it really heavy and not suitable. The original pulleys are 7/8 inch wide . Instead of changing all the other pulleys to match the generator I machined the 24 volt pulley to fit the 12v. The shaft size is the same but the pulley is deeper so I had to counterbore it about 3/8 inch to get the nut and washer on. The military pulley is cast iron so it was no problem. The military block uses heavy duty cast iron side motor mounts and the generator mount is attached to the right one. I had to move the generator up and in to clear the shock. I machined the mount so I can adjust the pulley alignment.
One more little project completed many more to go.

If I was Jethro I would run them as is and buy a bag of caramels and anyone who picks out the odd duck gets a caramel award...:p...I would of came up dry...

@Jethro have you thought of painting in the V8 on the caps a complimentary General Mischievous color?...

Actually Stogy I was thinking red to match the block and a single red pinstripe to follow the reveal on the body.
I'm thinking black for the body colour. I like the idea of single stage cut and buffed but I've only sprayed BCC . still a few months away before topcoat....I can change my mind

Jethro I was talking the painting in the V8 Logo on the wheelcovers and on this round I spotted the Caramel popper...:D...I'd paint them anyway but keep your eye out for a match to the set...

Did you use single stage on your dash?

If you are worried about imperfections in your paint prep would laying down a guide coat and sanding on that help?

I used Shop line single stage just to try it out. It lays down nice and smooth but I was painting on the horizontal , spraying vertical will be my next challenge

I always use a guide coat when blocking out my panels. My problem is dirt , I get nibs and bugs so I am working on a few ideas to make my spray area more surgical.

I'll make sure I have some caramels if I see you around

So it finally warmed up enough outside that I could get my shop warm enough to spray a little more primer. I have already primed and blocked once. I have to do some little fiddly massaging and filling pinholes and tiny gaps that should keep me busy for a little while. I'm going to let it sit a few weeks before the second block sanding.....that's really hard for an impatient instant gratification type of guy like me but we'll see how it goes.

Primed and blocked three times , ready to wet sand with 400 then paint.....it's gotta warm up quite a bit before that happens 20220202_141703.jpg 20220202_141724.jpg 20220202_141738.jpg

You got skills! I missed the thread until today and enjoyed catching up, kinda like binge watching a couple seasons of baywatch...I need to get out more. Great work, looking forward to the paint so post away.
