Our family just picked this Show Rod started in 1964 completed in 1965. It was an old ISCA show car, competing out west under the name Casual T, and when it moved east, Mint Julip. Were trying to get any history on the car, so we figured what better place than the HAMB?
won BEST ROD, BEST ROD MOTOR, AND BEST ROD INTERIOR in the 1969 Cavalcade of Customs shown in Cincinnati.

ANY INFO, OR ANYONE SEEN THE CAR IN THE PAGES OF YOUR MAGS, LET US KNOW..







Here are some pictures of the car. It is pretty much unchanged down to the tires... since the late 60's.

Was the "pink panther" car real ?

 

Don't know what you mean by real. Did it exist ? Or did it run and drive ? I don't know if it moved under its own pwer or not but it definitely existed. I saw it personally.

The legendary Pink Panthermobile, from NBC’s “The Pink Panther Show,” a worldwide phenomenon in the ‘70s, has returned to Los Angeles after several years abroad. Originally built for the cost of $100,000, this one-of-a-kind limousine was designed by Ed “Newt” Newton and the construction was a collaboration between famed customizers, Dan Woods, Joe Bailon and Bill “The Leadslinger” Hines. Newton is the creator behind famous vehicles, including Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s Orbitron and Surfite, as well as Galpin Auto Sports’ (GAS) Scythe concept and many other legendary customs. Woods’ built the infamous Milk Truck and Ice Truck.

Built on a ‘60s Oldsmobile Toronado chassis and sculpted out of sheet metal and top-of-the-line materials, the distinctive Panthermobile is an astounding 23-feet long and six-feet wide. Powered by a massive seven-liter engine that moves the front wheels, and the driver’s seat is located outside the vehicle in front of the engine. The all-pink long-snouted vehicle exudes classic ‘70s era cool with its space-age styling and two-piece clamshell opening doors. The original upholsterer, Joe Perez, reworked his magic in the same garage he did 47 years ago! The Pink Panthermobile was found and completely restored by GAS with Builder, Dave Shuten. The Pink Panthermobile is proudly on display for all to see at Galpin Motors!

My cousins Roger and Larry Jongerius Built a bunch of these "show cars" including the pink panther, Barbershop car, For Bob Reisner (SP???) The Stage coach car for Jack Keif . He said the bunk bed car was so dumb you had to lay in bed to drive it! They were J & J Chassis
Any information on J & J Chassis would be appreciated . They printed a simple catalog of parts they made, I would love $$$$$ to find one of these catalogs

 

Pink Panther styled after a Platypus?

 

Who knows, J & J Chassis had a full time artist Ed Newton to draw up these strange creations

 

Just finished this 1/25 model - Krazy Rick - Not 100% accurate or complete - but here it is

 

The truck in the background looks familiar as well as the blue T but I cna't place the white twin engine c-cab.

 

I remember seeing it as a kid at the Denver World of Wheels. I have never found any photos of it though.

 

The X-Ray was Ray's first build without Doug, who had left to open his own shop by then.

 

A hint of the cost to do a show car paint job.

 

I miss the show rods of the old days. They showed how indoor plumbing could be cool!

 

My C Cab, removed from a 40 year hibernation. 371 Olds with a 471 Jimmy.

 

I remember a similar story from 1508, when Michelangelo was hired was to repair a crack in the ceiling of the Cappella Sistina. Artists...whatcha gonna do?

 

Kenny did paint jobs on two of my bikes. You just had to know how to handle the situation. Walk in, drop off the parts, give him a very brief idea of what you wanted, and then leave. That was the best way to avoid a fight.

 

And just an additional comment, if you left him alone for a while and didn't say what you maybe would like...
you would end up getting something like Stan Betz's Speed and Color delivery El Camino came back with flames, a flying eye, a fish tank painted on the rear quarter fender, and other artistic weirdness to the max.

 

Just had a look through this old thread and there are some great old show rod pics.
Couldn't see one of my favourites, and I think it deserves to be here.
