I have been working on fitting the wood around the windows in my 30 coupe but I came across something that doesn't seem right and I never noticed it. At the bottom of the window opening the slotted lip doesn't jibe with the lower section of wood. I am not sure if I ever had the wood to compare it to but something isn't right. Even comparing it to pics online it seems different. Is this a roll-down window opening? If so, have any of you fitted a standard wood kit? Model A guys can you help?
Since the bottom flange is bent straight down it most likely had roll down back window. The 30 coupe used thinner wood, when the went to the roll down window for 31 the wood is much thicker even on non roll down windows. I can post a photo tomorrow of mine which is 1930 style.
A 32 coupe I've been working on had the lower flange like yours since all 32's have roll up windows. I didn't want the roll up feature, so I bent that flange to match the other sides. I made my own wood so it fit perfectly.
Sure, I'd love to see a pic. Thanks. I don't want roll up/down windows either. I hadn't even considered that my car was anything but standard until tonight. Since I have the standard wood kit, it looks like I'll be modifying something soon... Here I was thinking I was going to get off easily!
@A 2 B thanks. I definitely have the roll-up/down type opening on my car then. Thanks for the clear pic. Thanks so much, everybody! Now to figure the best way to proceed...
Maybe a Roll Down might provide some refreshing airflow, perhaps re-consider using non functional... Hambers, anyone here have any experience with the airflow with and without this feature?
Funny they exclude the glass in the kit and low and behold it's right below it...humm...408.30 that was easy... With no aircon in the big scheme of things it might be worth it...my rear window is fixed. I rely on the tilting Windshield and the door windows...and yes there is flow...it actually comes in curls and heads down behind the dash towards ones feet along with bees and other critters... As much as many frown at hanging the Ole arm out the window it certainly is very much like the dog with its tongue out at times...I live with it but wonder how much difference there is...
Not for me - at all. That doesn't fit this car whatsoever. I'd rather spend the money on my 327 or a 12 gal moon fuel tank.
That catalog is 3 or 4 years old. I have ordered from them recently, prices are all up and many things "no longer available", but they do their best to find what you need.

A friend had them on his '29 coupe decades ago but I never gave them any thought at the time. Not right for Brent's car either. Brent, if you need any more pics or measurements, just say so.

Thanks. I just came out to the garage to see what I can do with the wood and how to fasten the lower section because I'd just be laying in bed thinking about it if I didn't. A quick look and I thought of a couple options that might work. At least I know what I am looking at now. I appreciate the help. That goes out to everyone.
Here is a few more pics that may help. First one shows the corner details. All four corners are the same, measuring 1 1/4" from the corner. Easily improvised or maybe not even needed. Second pic shows the lower cross wood not extending past the uprights. Third pic is what appears to be a bracket made of 14 gauge sheet metal to tie the upper horizontal wood together. A page from Mike's showing that bracket. Easy to make.
Those corner pieces are something I want to order or fab. Thanks so much for those pics! Here is what I did:
I love seeing all these pics. This will certainly help someone in the future. As for my issue, the window opening has been converted from the Deluxe to Standard and fitted to the chop.
30 coupe Standard: Rubber corner pieces replicated with sheet metal to help keep the rubber gasket in place. Replica rear wood framing around a NON Roll down window and rear parcel shelf. Parcel shelf has been modified to give more leg room.
I've used these photos and your build blog as a reference quite a few times! It's been a great resource. https://chevelle406.wordpress.com/
Hey @Canuck do you happen to have any pics of your garnish trim installed and the glass in and such? I've been fabbing and I made up a set of corner supports like yours but the way my repop trim is, I am not sure it will look "right". Here are some pics:
All of the corner fillers on the body side of the window won't show at all with the glass and rubber gasket in place. Since the corner tins in your window molding don't cover as much as the arch in the body, maybe some of the rubber might show on the inside. And maybe you want to replace your corner tins. Or maybe we are just overthinking this.
These are original Ford window trim. Don't know if corner is larger than your repro. The rubber that shows along the straight sections is about the same as what shows through the corners.
Cool! That helps. Mine looks the same. The stock ones I have looked that don't have such a gasket as what we're using.
