No work on the banger, but got the plumbing all done on the juice brake conversion I started two weeks ago. Also got a nice 4" dropped axle under there.

    Happy November!!

Dang Burl, I'm liking your shop. Mine is bigger, but almost never has that much concrete showing, haha. How many TV's you got in there? I think I spotted 2 on just one wall, fancier than mine too.

Making headway... Drove to her first show last saturday... I had heard the Thomas 7.1 head caused vibrations, now I can attest that its deff not as smooth as a lower CR head... But the power is deff nice to have, taking off in 2nd all the time... Few pics from the outing last weekend.

Waiting on glass to seal up the big pneumonia holes in the doors. Its 'I need manifold heat time' again. This year I'm going to do something about it.. seriously.. thinking about wrapping the manifold with tubing, running hot water heat, make it look like a still..

    G'day guys,
I have a haemorrhaging rear main and have just pulled the cap with a little guidance from @Barrelnose pickup

    Here's the cap as removed
    20211104_192650.jpg 20211104_192659.jpg

    And the shims
    20211104_192707.jpg 20211104_192719.jpg

Are these single shims or do I need to peel them apart? Does the cap look ok for a beater? I may have a re babbited cap laying around but no more shims, what's my best course of action here?

Another thing of note is this lifter valley breather, good or bad?

    20211104_192734.jpg

    Thanks for any advice
    Paul

You can dabble a little solder in the cracks,it might help make that thrust bearing last..

I agree with what was said earlier, some solder may get you some years out of it for sure...

Here is what complete failure looks like...This poured out of the rear main badly... But little motor still ran smooth as hell... Hated to pull her and set her to the side but Ill get to it one day...

As to your comment about taking a main bearing from the shelf that has good babbit to replace it I don't think you can do that.

Yes you can, if the crank is the same size or over the size of the bearing.. same is a matter of shimming, or you use a bearing knife and cut the babbit to fit..scotchbrite can cut babbit as well, or 'timesaver', a compound used to cut assembled babbit bearings, akin to lapping compound.
