After owning this car for two years now I'm finally able to get some work done on it. I'll be posting images from the last two years to get caught up to current on the build. These photos are from the day I picked it up, with help from my Brother. Check out the stripping on the firewall circa 70s? Would love to know more about the artist. I'll post more on that soon.
Bring it on, and thanks for bringing it on...to the Hamb... positive of the Striping timeline @Lancer?... This is all new to me so a belated Ya LuckyGuy!!
@Stogy Not sure of the timeline for the pinstripping. Here is a close up of the signature. I was told he was known by the Kustom Kemps and did a lot of stuff in the mid west. Thats where the timeline guess came from.

Very cool, looks like my guess about the timeline was pretty close. Didn't realize he was that well known. I did some searches on the name two years ago when I got the car but didn't find anything. I think I even posted on here about it. To bad the links don't work on that 12 year old thread, but its great to have that info now. Thanks @Stogy
There are quite a few mentions in the Hamb archives...certainly an active artist amongst the Striping circle and like all of them he has his own style... ...I was looking at that striping on the cowl and being a visual artist I many times see things others may not... Perhaps it was intentional maybe not but there is a bizarre/kooky face/head if you look at it closely with pie shaped glasses... wild hair, a stash and that larger hole in cowl near the bottom just off to the right of center looks a bit of a kooky mouth...the bottom center of the cowl could also serve as a more life sized mouth but either way I am chuckling looking at it... The bluish areas off to the sides of the cowl below center look like bluish clouded sky... I am working on an little something to bring that out and will share it in a bit.. Again it could be a mere coincidence but I saw it nearly immediately... So what's the plan. @Lancer? Flatty, Hemi, Smallblock?
@Stogy I see exactly what you are talking about. Once the engine is in place you wont be able to see it though. Plans are for a 292 Ford Y-Block, World Class T-5 and a Ford 9" with Posi. I have all of the drivetrain now, just getting it sorted out. Main focus right now is getting the Banjo out and the brackets welded to the 9". Going with ladder bars. Lots more photos to come.
There's some MK John work on my dad's 38 Chevy, done at Des Moines in 83-84. I'll post up a pic later.
Sniffing Flathead...Hello 292... Coming Up!!! Have fun with it @Lancer...It has that look happening... Credit to All That Inspired This
So, my plan has been to run a Y-Block 292 that I had picked up and a 5 speed. But, this weekend I had a 1956 Y-Block with 55K original miles with matching 3 speed with overdrive fall into my lap. Now I am rethinking and considering running the 3 speed/od instead. I just need to find a floor shifter for it. Anyone have a line on a floor shifter for a top loader 3 speed?
It's now in lot of pieces. Block sanding is taking place, which is interesting. Never sanded on a gel coat before. Needs work to fit the doors properly. They will take some time, and cutting. I keep going back and forth on whether to punch louvers in the deck lid. What do you think? These photos are a month or so old, more work has been done, I need to get some more photos taken. Photos are mostly in order.
I know that body has inner structure of some sort, but I wouldn't mess with door gaps until it's back bolted on the frame. Looking good! Also, I saw my post in this thread from last year promising a pic of MK John work on my car. Here ya go, better late than never!
Was able to get more parts pulled off and more blocking done. The doors are going to be the most work. They need work in every area. The firewall is cherry though, pretty stoked on that part. Its the only part I don't have to touch.
